SENMM advice

For one of my latest projects I tried out SENMM, I got some suggestions in the WIP section wich was really helpfull. Anyway I\'m not completely happy with the way it turned out - there is something not right about it, but I can\'t seem to quite figure out what to change/do differently next time. So any advice and suggestions would be really appreciated.

Cheers Manus

SENMM is an extremely stylised technique that, IMO, doesn\'t suit every mini. This mini, for instance, has way too little metallic surfaces for SENMM to come to it\'s right. In my eyes, the SENMM only creates confusion here instead of wowing me.

So, I think the biggest problem here is not that you\'ve done badly with the SENMM, but that the technique doesn\'t really fit in this context.

Furthermore, you will always run into problems if you\'re doing SENMM concerning what should be reflected in the metallic objects. In the middle pic here you\'d expect to see some of the pumpkin reflected in the side surface of the knife. Instead you see a horizon that, in fact, should be blocked from view by the pumpkin. This type of problems will always occur when using this technique, but I feel it becomes very obvious here where there is only one small object that the technique is used on.

I have to agree with Ritual, however as you said you were just experimenting I think small areas and small models are great to work with. The glaring flaw for me is that the reflection on the blade is perfectly flat!!! That almost never happens, the blade that is not directly facing the model should be trailing away/down the blade. Best think to do on these is simply to grab a polished knife & hold it up, then look in a mirror to see what kinda of reflections you get. The reflection is almost to much of a mirror effect. I would argue that most knives/blades have an almost satin finish rather than high polish!

Good luck & nice first attempt!!!!!!

Some of the best SENMM jobs I\'ve seen have been on Tau minis, so I\'d say something in that vein would be a good subject. Something that you can do a futuristic Soroyama look on.
