separating vallejo

Hello all you knowledgeable painters,

I\'ve been using some vallejo game colors and I notice that some of them (namely reds and oranges), separate on my pallette really easily, like in under a minute!

Can anyone tell me if the model colors, of which I have a bunch on order comming to me, separate that easily? Any help would be greatly appeciated.

In my experience the game colors separate more easily than the model colors do. There are a few model colors that suffer from this too, but not as much and only a few. But it\'s still a good idea to shake the paint pots very well before pouring out any paint.

I do shake them, and have agitators in them.

I use a wet pallette made of a pallette sponge and parchment paper.

I also thin them at lease 1:1 with thinning gunk, which is 9 parts water and 1 part liquitex floaid. I dont\' know if this makes a difference.

I use Liquitex Flow Aid some times too, and I find that it separates the paint somewhat. Therefore, I only use it when I need it (which is not that often...). But, you\'ll probably find that the model colors generally are better in this aspect.

I have a jug of golden flow improver. Mabey I should give that a go and see what happens. Or I could use future for a flow release too, I\'ve heard that people use it for thinning, but have always been leary to try it for fear of hurting a good brush that isn\'t just for washing.

I think people over-use flow improver. For most purposes you need nothing but water.

Sometimes I do think that I use a lot of addatives due to lack of confidence in my skills. I do want to be able to use just water because of the paint film interactions with flow improver.

Ah well, this isn\'t a conversation about my self confidence so I digress

Maybe I\'m to \'old school\' but I use water and even more frequently spit to thin my paints. Now for those newer or cleaner I don\'t spit on my brushes but rather wet the brush between dips into the paint with my mouth. It\'s something I\'ve seen many other painters do but mostly the old timers to the hobby. Paint would have to seperate pretty darn fast to beat this, in fact I don\'t recall the last time I had paints seperate (mind you I only use a couple Vallejo (I can\'t even spell it, had to look).

I use Future as a flow enhancer but I\'m really cutting back lately. I find it too causes the paint to separate quickly, and it leaves too much gloss.
