Serendipity favours the modern miniature man.

Hello CMoN,

I just thought I'd post a thread and attach a photo of the very cool mini I found lying around at a hobby store in Taipei last night. An unopened "1995" Citadel Dark Elf Sorcerer y'all! Very cool! This is an era when I believe Citadel made minis with tons of character and cool vibe about them. Before they decided that putting a zillion skulls on every sculpt was cool. And a time when my favorite "Beakie" Space Marines were readily available. I'm really looking forward to opening this unopened blister and bringing this little gem of a mini to life. It cost me US$20 which I'm cool with. And while I noticed that I could buy this mini on e-bay (opened blister) for cheaper, it was worth it just to be able to walk into a "real life" shop and tangibly flick my fingers through blisters hanging from the wall. I felt like a kid all over again, and the sense of happiness I felt while doing this was priceless.

Just as a final rant. I really wish that Citadel (GW) would re-release a tribute or legacy series of "old favorites" from the 80's and early to mid-90's pressed in pewter. Now I'd buy that!

Personally...I have a hard time with 1995 being "the good old days"......

As for the rest of it.....very cool stuff.

I remember walking into a gaming store in 2003 and discovering a wall FULL
of blisters by a company I had never heard of.....Rackham.
It was like Christmas morning.......

I'll settle for them being the "not so bad days".

And it was late 2001 when I was introduced to Rackham figures courtesy of this site and Jen Haley.
Buying them, well that was a different matter. In that the US was far luckier than the UK, but I've still managed to get a "reasonable collection". ;)

When I started with this hobby back in 1995 the opinion of many hobbyists around here was that GW had betrayed the true hobbyists, were too expensive etc. and left GW to move on to other things.

The good old days tend to depend how old you are with GW. My good old days was when Brian Nelson started sculpting for GW and brought out Orcs/Orks/goblins that looked the part instead of the silliness that was before him. Gorka Morka still have the best Orks ever done. Kev's goblins were nice, sure, but Brians were often even better. :) And before I get strangled by some older forum residents I'll grab my coat! ;)

No I agree with you Sven, GorkaMorka Orks were and still are the start of better sculpting of Orks.
And if truth be told I prefer them to some of the current overblown ones around now.
I still have a couple of decent models flitting around from that era and would gladly add to the collection, but as it is......"The Broomrider" (Bless her) is making me be VERY selective about my purchases.

Although I'm rather tempted by the Raging Heroes Orc Warmaster.

I'll have to see what Salute brings.

Hi, nice to read your comments guys. Yeah discovering Rackham minis back in the day and walking into a shop stocked wall to wall with Confrontation miniatures was a beautiful dream. Perhaps one of the most poignant points in my past. It was fun to do the maths on 1995 and now. "18" years ago! Man! It seems like only yesterday. Yeah ~ like you Mike, I'm also sitting on a sweet little collection of Rackham gems. Although, I did give one away to a guy in China last year as part of my annual random acts of kindness thangy. Interesting to hear what Sven said in regard to guys /gals feeling betrayed by GW back in the 90's. I didn't realise that the "betrayal" started so long ago. I thought it was only something that began 10 years ago or so. Dig, dig, dig!!! Lol ~ nah but seriously, it's no laughing matter. And while I'm not familiar with Brian Nelson's sculpts, I do love Kev Adam's Orcs & Goblins.

Hehe ~ "The Broomrider". Funny stuff:) And that link to the raging heroes orc is very cool! Certainly an awesome looking ork!

Today she says ..." Not had any Two pound coins for a while [SUP](**)[/SUP] ".....Gets two in me change.

Yes metal of course! Another thing was how clean and organic they were.

Ok fanboy loveletter below:
Brian Nelson is without a doubt the most talented sculptor GW has ever had. He's done the best lotr sculpts (most portrait like), best orcs, best imperial guards, best monsters even... you name it. Others have their specialties but I have yet to see something Brian has failed to do even if I don't always agree with the concepts. Juan Diaz is amazing as well and I'd place him second along with Jes Goodwin, he's also extremely versatile but I've seen more misses from him. Jes is great, and his concepts are amazing but technically his faces for example tend to look the same and while his work was outstanding in the beginning of 90's others caught up. Alex Hedström has the potential, he's done some of the best "lines" and postures like the amazing nightbringer but often his work is a bit sloppy. There are some oldtimers that shine in their respective fields and some "newcomers" that might go on to do great things (Steve Buddles new Radagast the brown is a hidden gem for example and we all know what he can do...).

Euro Militaire ~ COOL! You're sure to see some amazingly painted miniatures there! May two pound coins rain down around ya every day:) Looking at their calendar you've got until 21st-22nd September, 2013. That's a fair while. Good idea too. I may start saving NT$50 coins for events I'd love to go to. Events like Gencon, CMoN Expo, etc.

I love the love letter you wrote Sven. Very touching:) I'll have to do some research and find some of Brian Nelson's sculpts. Sure it's fantastic! And while it seems socially acceptable to express "fanboy" sentiments, allow me to jump on the bandwagon. I love you BOBBY WONG:)
