Sergeant Denegos of the Dark Angels Chapter:

img48dda730286ba.jpg

This is the latest miniature I have painted, as a final addition to my portfolio before submitting it to Games Workshop in hopes of joining the \'Eavy Metal team.

I was really inspired by the armor BrokenBlade\'s fantastic Marnius Calgar. I restricted myself to mainly edge-highlighting though, but still went all the way to white on some areas.

It was tough painting three different kinds of bone colors but still trying to keep them different (purity seals, tabard, and helmet). So I decided to have the purity seals look like some of the old yellowed drawings from the renaissance that were on vellum. The shadows in the tabard were done with Chaos Black to make it appear a bit more grey in color. Finally, I kept shadows to a minimum on the helmet and backpack to make that bone color appear brighter.

I have been experimenting with painting true metallics using the new Citadel washes. I like how smooth they turn out, so I\'ll probably write an article. These were done with Chaos Black, Boltgun Metal, Mithril Silver, Devlan Mud, and Badab Black.

And you can vote here if you would be so kind :)

Thanks for looking!

Hey Matt!

I gave him a 9. Reason being is because I KNOW YOU CAN DO BETTER! I think that the helmet is incredible. It blends very well and looks very smooth. The bone color looks excellent.
I also like the cloth. The contrast looks great and it makes the cloth real dramatic. I am not much for line highlighting but it looks good overall. The think the most well executed area is the right fist.
I must also give you props for the base because it is way better than anything I could make.

Do me a favor. Make a tutorial on complex bases in the \"articles\" section ;) I would really appreciate it :)

Looking good! An excellent mini for your portfolio, I think - it suits the clean \'Eavy Metal style while still being a bit different, and it shows how little time it takes you to paint to a really nice standard :) Good luck!

Cheers guys :)

Oh thanks for reminding me about the basing article Alien. I\'ve been meaning to get one together for a while now! I\'ll try to get it up in the next couple weeks.

It\'s really simple actually. Just took a few pieces from the new cityfight terrain box, chopped them up and glued them to the base. Sand and rocks/rubble was built up in layers with superglue. Takes literally like 5 minutes! :D

me likey very much.

like the contrast used. esp like the smoothness of the helmet and the bone color used on it. only downside i could name would be the roughness on the shoulder pad highlighting. other than that, its an awesome piece.
