I came across JNC\'s gallery today, and this guy has got major talent. Unfortunately, it doesn\'t appear that his figures have the recognition he justly deserves. Here are some examples:

I paint my thumb.
All 9 to me...

But since they are historical or otherly out of mainstream minis, on the masses level, there is bound to be some people to vote them lower, It\'s just like that.

I can agree that the middle miniature is about right (the skin is perfect, but the wood and clothes let it down) but I am especially shocked by the 8.9 and 8.6.

Care to explain why you think they\'re justified Vike?

The paintjobs are flawless (and I\'ve seen some of these first hand), but that\'s \"all\" there is. When I vote on high standard pieces like these, I keep room for people that convert, sculpt, and make elaborate settings. It isn\'t really the case here.

Like the others, I think the ratings are fair (more or less a few tenths of points).

I gave all three 9\'s. I vote blind with the score hidden, but they were pretty close to what others had given. Maybe historical minis get lower from others? I like the realism myself.

I agree with Green Stuff.
Although these are really brilliant pieces of Historical painting, Cedric\'s comments about conversions and alterations hold true.

The accuracy of these pieces are great and it is a shame that the majority of figures viewed on this site are SF or Fantasy and therefore do have a tendency towards far more expanded Contrasted colours and paintschemes. So the veiwers regard can become biased towards the strnger contrast and \"Bling factor\".
The subtlety of these peices is regretfully in part what is not giving the higher scores Ainu Lainour seems to regard these models as deserving.

However we should remember that 8.9 is certainly not a poor score by any means.

sure, if an 8 is considered VERY GOOD, these are all above VERY GOOD....and all actually leaning closer to a 9 than not....so obviously all have gotten more 9 votes than 8s.

I don\'t disagree with your assessment, JNC is a very talented painter, and I am all for giving him or her just due. I would have voted them all 9\'s, but since I am typically a half a point to a point higher in my voting than \'the norm\', I think these are all about right....Nothing is \'underated\' at all, let alone to say \'severely underated. Would you have expected 10\'s for scores?

Hm, I don\'t see why they should be \"underrated\". Aren\'t these 54mm scale miniatures? In my opinion a 9 is a very outstandig pice, so 8.6, 8.7, 8.9 is very very good, nothing to rant about. ;)

Indeed I agree with AinuLainour.. these pieces are a it underrated, on my opinion, especially the first and the last, deserve a better rating... i think at least 9!
I\'ve however voted for 10, but i think they deserve 9.2 /9.4 ! ;)

But he\'s got a whole page of 9+ scores!!! Seems the quality of work is very appreciated!

I think the examples you give are scored fine for those pieces

so essentially what people are saying is that a cool sculpt cannot be deemed a cool mini by proxy???? it NEEDS to be converted or altered???? come on people......

with the greatest of respect to people, I find this a bit silly, and to be honest pretentious, especially with the historical stuff where accuracy is a major influence to the sculpt and the way the artist paints it.

Having said that, I do also agree however that no one has the right to say that any mini in the high 8\'s is underrated, just because they personally think it deserves a higher score.

No matter how good the paintjob, most historicals make me yawn for some reason. They are often better painted technically than the fantasy and sci-fi ones, but I just don\'t like them much.

I tend to just not vote on them, but others feel the same way as I and do vote on them, giving them \'lower\' scores.

All this \'this mini is underrated\' stuff is a load of rubbish anyway, its like beating a dead horse. We are talking opinions here and peoples opinions often do not agree, why do you feel a need to push your opinion on others?

My opinion is that the first pic would be 10 painting, but I just don\'t care for the minis, maybe a 7-8. Second is better mini worse painting.

This forum is full of opinions, and so why should I not add my? I agree with the underappreciated statement, but I still believe that the first submission should surpass 9.0... Then again that\'s just my opinion.
