Is it possible to make golden surfaces more \"plastic\"? (I mean, to do highlights and shadows?)

I know, I\'m asking a lot. But till now I found no good hints for stuff like that.

thx Matze

Okay ... you say ... you can shade every color. I believe in this.

It\'s not that hard of a question Sam.

I\'m no expert on painting gold (to the point I don\'t think I\'v ever done it) but browns and greens apparently work well.

use mithril silver mixed with the shining gold as a highlight for metallic gold. You could use a tiny dot of straight mithril silver for the extreme highlight.

Is this a metallic or NON-Metallic question?

I know you mentioned shining gold, which makes me think metallics, but I\'m not sure...

If you want to build up depth with metallics, you could try experimenting with building over different shades like you would when highlighting normally...

Ie. Tin bitz, dwarven bronze, Burnished gold, shining gold, mithril silver...

Is that what you mean?

If you are paint metallic gold then you can shade it with brown, green, a little black, etc. Try searching \"tarnished gold\" online and see what colors show up on the metal.

When I paint metallic gold I use either dwarf bronze or brazen brass as a base. Shade with brown, dark green, and black. Highlight with shining gold and then shining gold mixed with a little mithril silver.

If you are talking about NMM you can use vallejo goldbrown and highlight to white and your done.

I asked Razza about how he painted his NMM gold and this is what he said \"gold was- *snakebite *shade terracotta *shade black *highlight snakebite + bleached bone *bleached bone *white *yellow glaze\". His gold is incredibly good so you might want to give it a whirl.

I looked through a few of the models, and the painting is good, but imho there is no final highlight to me. the dark angels for example the bleached bone looks good but doesn\'t seem to have a lighter highlight. Though the pics dont really show much gold that you have done.

Nice painting though

Highlight

Cleezy, first thanx for the compliment.

(also take a look at my wife ...

She\'s allways fine about any comments for her minis.)

Back to the final highlight thing. I have no idea how to do this (till now).

Any Idea how to do? (Where and how with which colour?)

I usually paint an inverted \"u\" on the shoulderplate with 2:1 Skullwhite-Bleachted Bone

You\'re right. Till now i painted not that much metall stuff. I add a imperial mechanicus.

Da Matze.

There I tried shading with metal. But I think it wasn\'t that good.

I have started using snakebite leather as a basecoat, then gold. I then use alternating washes (very thin) of purple and green inks. then highlight again with my metallic gold then a further highlight with P3 Radiant Platinum.

A shoulderplate is a curved surface, so the highlights should look more like a \"V\" or \"T\" shape and the shadows more like a L (and reversed L) along the lower edges.
Here\'s a visual idea of what I mean.
