I\'ve finally sorted out my new computer! Core i7 920 processor, 6gb Patriot Viper RAM, HD4870X2 graphics card, 1TB HDD, 24\" screen.... Everything (including the OS) was bought new and put together by myself yesterday and today (yesterday I verified that it all works and installed the OS and drivers; today I did cable management and swearing at case fans). It\'s blue and black and very sexy. I\'m typing on it now and I\'m in HEAVEN! :flip::flip::flip:

(Pix may follow if I can find someone to lend me their camera. It might not be a mini, but I\'m damn proud of it all the same!)

??? That sounds like junk....I mean only a single terabyte? Why didn\'t you get a petabyte hard drive? lol

Seriously, what are you really gonna do with that much hard drive space? Rent movies to put blockbuster out of business? That is 1000 gigs of storage space. enough room to hold 200 DVDs. (or one PDF form application for mericare of cash for clunkers.)

Isn\'t it a bit sad though that your computer is so fast, that most of your applications are to slow to take full advantage, and you still have to wait for slow connection speeds on the internet because they are dwarfed by your processor and....wait what kind of NIC card or network connections does it have? ???

(Seriously congrats, thats a monster!)

See, I thought that when I first got a 100GB HDD. It soon filled up. And as you say, I can fit plenty of films on it! ;) (Many games nowadays seem to take up ridiculous amounts of space too. At least I won\'t run out in a hurry!)

Most new PCs can handle Crysis on ultra high now... mine is two years old with an 8800GTX and can handle that and Far Cry 2 without a problem on the max. Buuuttt, that machine of Amazon Warrior\'s will really come into its own in around two years, when games with graphics like films come out.

That\'s kind of what I\'m hoping, actually. I don\'t want to have to do anything to this machine now for a good few years! It\'s the first time that I\'ve owned something that\'s unquestionably high-end, and I want it to last.

Seriously, however, I hope you enjoy your new system. There\'s something undeniably cool about upgrading and enjoying those first few weeks of \"OMG, I can do ANYTHING with this!\"

Last October, I ended up building a computer for myself, and then prior to my deployment to Iraq, I gave it to my wife. Even using parts that aren\'t necessarily top of the line, and only a single graphics card, I can manage to run Oblivion just fine on full settings.

AMD 2.5ghz Quadcore
8g 1066hz Corsair memory
Asus 9800gtx, 1g video card
2x 500g harddrives
Xtreme Titanium SB card

When I get back, I\'m going to take a portion of what I saved up while deployed, fling it at a noteable tech-geek business in town and state \"Build me something that can out-think Stephen Hawkins\". We\'ll see what happens. I purchased a Gateway FX laptop to bring with me on my deployment, and am anxiously awaiting the release of Diablo 3 to see how it handles.

Not a bad MoBo. 2 gig ethernet. Whatever game you play will be waiting for the server. Only place I know to get 1gig ethernet service is in Japan. You should be set for a few years elsewhere while the other techs catch up to your computer to be able to use em.

I just hope your northbridge doesn\'t do what my GigaByte MoBo did and melt.

Now all you need is some interior neons, an acryllic case, and water cooling system for it to be geeked out. lol (Maybe a laser splitter connected to special parts to display a light show within the case while you wait on things to get to that beefy processor to make use of them.)

I see this sort of kit at work every day but don\'t have it at home! 24\" screen very nice though, I\'ve found it\'s made a huge difference to the way I work, 15\" to one side for video/tv. I hope I\'ve got the right person but don\'t you live in a small flat? I do & over the years I\'ve ditched the TV/video/dvd player & all of the hi-fi kit, all goes through the computer now, made enough space in the living room for another chair & a bookcase. Now I can have 3 guests before people have to sit on the floor! Congrats on getting it up & running :beer:

1TB hard to fill? If you find DVDs to be as feeble a media as me (& they live in the cases not on the floor) then 8gb per backup fills some HDD space pretty swiftly! After the music & increasingly humungous game install sizes of course.

Me too. My graphics card and general spec is a little lower than yours and it handles it on ultra no problem. Oblivion isn\'t a demanding game compared to Crysis, but is infinitely better :) *braces self for stoning*.

Anyway, I think we may have started another one of those \'post your specs\' threads :)

Harr. Most of the time I\'m waiting for the server or the application itself to catch up to what I want it to do, versus my cpu chugging hard to catch up.

My wife\'s taking good care of it, and will likely last well into the next year; I plan on upgrading a few components when I get back from overseas duty so we can game lag-free together.

If that\'s not true love, I don\'t know what is.

Little curious on the price side myself, I got mine custom done about 3 years ago, it is getting alittle old now since I did not have a decent budget then. hoping to get something built up to get me through some high end releases for a good while.

I do indeed have a small flat. It feels even smaller at the moment because there are empty boxes everywhere! I\'m moving soon, tho, to a two-room flat, but I am thinking that this might be the only entertainment system I need.....

That\'s definitely true love! :D

To be fair, my lappy could run Oblivion - just - and it has a pentium M 2.0GHz chip, 2GB of RAM and a Geforce Go 6600 graphics card. But recently it\'s been overheating and crashing after one game of Audiosurf or during World of Goo; I think three years of abuse may have left its mark. Plus the fans make a horrible piercing whistle, even after being cleaned. Still, it\'s done me very well, all things considered.

A money question huh? Well, without OS, monitor and spangly bits (cold cathodes and extra fans) the total was 1280.86 euros. With the other bits, 1628.46 euros. I had to buy everything from scratch because I\'ve only had the aforementioned laptop for ages. I shopped around a lot, so the processor, MB, RAM and GFX card came from Overclockers.co.uk (they do international delivery! Who knew?) and were way cheaper than I could find them over here, and the rest came from various stores here in Germany. I bought a more expensive case than I absolutely needed too, but everything fits in nicely (once I figured out cable management!) and it looks spanking. And if anyone\'s rolling their eyes at my profligacy, that\'s a promotion, a bonus and a birthday present to myself, and I spread the purchases over two months. So nyah! :p

(Also, while I must make do with Vista 64 for now, I can upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out in October. Yay upgrade ticket!)

Well mine came from a company that gets second rate parts and puts them in their computer, so it was probably a run of boards that didn\'t pass QA and they still used them. GigaByte is a good MoBo maker.

:ninjasmilie: If you want Windows XP pro or 2000 pro for your machine then let me know. That will save you from the aggravation that is these newer versions. :ninjasmilie: Sadly they probably wouldn\'t run your apps.

I think we are all still awaiting pictures of your new child. Then we can pass around and smoke a few floppy disks to commemorate its birth. lol (Wait I still need those for my digital camera! We will smoke zip drives instead.)

Thanks for the offer. I\'ve got a friend at work who\'s offered me XP if I want it too. However, I\'ve heard that Windows 7 is actually a fairly good OS, and Vista is *much* more bearable once the UAC is disabled. It\'s the first thing I did! ^^; I\'m actually wondering whether to d/l W7 RC 1 and use that until the official release, but I\'m not sure I can be arsed to do all that chopping and changing now that I\'ve got Vista installed. It\'d be less hassle to wait until October and only change the OS once. Hopefully I\'ll have put in a partition or two by that stage, so I won\'t have to re-import all my data again.
