Hey guys, I\'ve got pics up!! After belonging to CMON for a year, I finally got my act together and took some pics......And since I\'m so excited, I thought (hoped) you guys would care. I\'d love to hear any comments, questions, tips, criticism (though if you know whats good for you......) etc. in this thread, or with the minis!!

Blood Angels Captain
Runesmith

Catachan Thingie

Edit: I\'m gonna remove Gauntfield and replace him, as it seems I uploaded the wrong pic.....too small. No votes yet, so no big loss.

Hi Nelson,

technically there isnt anything I can think of ya need to improve on immediately..... You have nice metallic painting... and your blood angels captain really looks nice, very rich and detailed. Your skill in shading I think is most evident in that mini.

However, there is something, and I cant put my finger on it yet... that seems odd...... I mean one of your minis is nicely painted enough to get 8 + esp for the captain......but somehow when I look at it visually I will probably only vote 7.5 at max.......

its odd.... something about the look and feel of the mini somehow prevents it from being really really outstanding... and I don\'t think its a photography problem either.

It might be colour combination or overall painting style.....

does anyone here feel the same way?

Nice work, Nelson!!

All three look really well done. I think my favorite is the Rune Smith. Personl taste. The Blood Angel is really well painted, but the sculpt itself is a bit \"busy\" for my tastes.

Glad you finally got to post some stuff and look forward to seeing more from ya\'.

Thanks for the comments guys!!
Tabitathan: Coul it be the gloss? I know most of my guys are kinda glossy. Dunno what else it could be, if you find my actual painting okay...

EDIT: I\'ve got Gauntfield up!

Gauntfield

I\'m not sure if the pic will work for you guys, for some reason my browser shows it as a broken image, but netscape doesn\'t.

Gauntfield seems to be working just fine, Nelson.

Another nice looking paint job. THe rust on the blade came out quite well. Funny about personal taste though isn\'t it? You say he\'s one of your favorites. I\'ve always had a particular, illogical dislike of that mini ???
Oh well. Good job though.

Nelson!!

I liked all your stuff, but especially Gauntfield. I think you have done a great job with the blending and the color choices.

He is such a cool little character, I am surprised I haven\'t bought him yet.....

Good work!!

Whoops, forgot about this thread....

Yeah, I personally use GW matte, as it\'s the only thing avaliable to me. It works okay for troops, but I\'ve started to forego the spray until after I\'ve taken the pic....even with an extremely light dusting, they become too shiny. That\'s especialy evident in Gauntfield.

This is a new mini, and the first one I haven\'t matted. Ork Warboss

BTW...Don\'t worry, I\'m not gonna go trolling for comments anymore...you\'ll have to keep up for yourself.;):bouncy:

atually Ork Warboss is really nice.....:D

the GW sprays arent matt... they are shiny no matter how you spray. I tried some at the local GW store.... they are really :p

personally my fav brand is Testors or Model Master.. they make great matt lacquer sprays. But spray two coats of gloss or semi gloss before 1 coat of matt... it protects the mini and gives a great effect.

Well, it\'s more a matter of availability, as no hobby shops in my town stock a good matte.....GW is my only option, right now. I\'m thinking of searching out some good matte the next time I make the 400 mile canoe trip to the bustling frontier town of Vancouver.....

Do you have any art supply stores or craft stores or graphic design supply places near you? THey are also good sources of matte sprays and might save you that 400 mile canoe trip lol

Nelson, you dark horse!

Unfortunately my connection is so slow at the moment (Yes I do have Broadband) that I have not been able to leave any comments. In fact, I have only been able to view your BA Termi, but he is a beaut!!!I was gonna give him an 8.

I am a closet BA fan however, but I don\'t think that counts...If you painted an Ultramarine to that level I would still be similarly impressed.

I will leave comments as my connection allows:D

Thanks, Finn! Notice that I painted the BA red....:] I was quite proud of that one. The pics aren\'t too big, are they? I was kind of afraid of that. Broadband, you say? I recently got ADSL, and after suffering on dial-up for years, I went into a frenzied orgy of downloading. Quite fun, but my comp is choking on the insane amount of viruses now gleefully frolicking in my \"movies\" folder...*cough*

Dauber, there are hobby stores around, but none with a high-quality matte. I\'ve tried brush on, spray on, and they just don\'t seem to do it.....I just sprayed the ork with GW, and I\'m glad that I took the pics first, \'cause he shone like my dad\'s head on a hot summer day.

More like a frenzied downloading of orgy *cough*

And of course you are an old hack of..........14 if I remember correctly!

Nelson That\'s a nice Ork. I\'ve painted a couple both for other people and I know what it\'s like to paint. You\'ll be pleased to know that yours is much better than both of mine. Well done you young whippersnapper........Now just put your fingers under this hammer.....:D

If you are ever interested in commission work let me know. I don\'t jusr mean exhibition quality;) I have a lot of stuff that needs 5-6 level labours..basically a whole squad of (very)veteran Blood Angels. PM me if you are interested

Nehl-suhn !

Thumbs up mate, can\'t believe I just saw this now...

But.. the Runesmith is my fave.. he just plain rocks ;) The red, the brown, the gold, the silver.. I love it :)

And the Ork is quite good also.. menacing skin, mind sharing how you did that to a grumpy old greenskin :) ?
