Shaping Cork Bark

Ok this is probably a stupid question. I have a few slabs of raw cork bark. I was readin that it is possible to sand a shape them in order to make them more suitable for miniature bases. Does anyone know what sort of tool I should use to do this? Sand Paper or maybe some other type of sanding tool? Also would a regular hobby knife be good enough to carve up the cork?

The cork slabs I have are about 12 inches X 12 inches X 2 inches so they are pretty thick.

Hacksaw, junior or regular, Tenon saw. Cut to fit base sizes you want, fill gaps with Polyfilla (Spakkle?) shape to match.

I am too old to experient.
