Shiny dullcoat, what gives?

I had just finished a miniature two days ago, i picked up some dullcoat today, sprayed it and it comes out shiny for some odd reason. I gave the can some more shakes .Two more coats later, it\'s still shiny. Anyone experience something similar? anything I can do about this or how I can fix the problem?

meeee toooo, I have coated with Vallejo Matt varnish after the sprays, even a few sprays do not seem to make a difference and I also notice my metallic paint is changing color very much after a spray.
I will write the company and let you know what they say maybe if a few of us write it will solve something.

I\'ve mostly just used brush on dullcoat and the only problem I\'ve had there is it tends to lift my layers if I\'m not careful... I\'ve used the spray once or twice and didn\'t have any problems with it. Maybe you got a bad batch or something since shaking it didnt work... I would have guessed it just wasnt mixed thouroughly enough... I remember being told to shake it a lot if its new or been sitting for a long time since it tends to seperate... don\'t know about that though.

You spraying indoors or out?

Humidity is probably not helping matters down there - you might also try warming the can in a bath of warm water while shaking it -

Or it could just be a bad batch.

Shake and spin the can for a full 2 minutes after the rattle comes loose.

Less is more. A wet coat will sometimes come out semi-gloss as there is so much vanish that the matt agents are buried.

Let cure. Give it one very light coat. Do not wet the mini. Wait.

I\'ve never had problems with dullcoat in my three years of using it in the humid weather and dry weather and I have shaken the can a bunch. not sure about the bath, why would that help?

My guess is that you are applying the Dullcote to thickly, if the humidity is low and the temperatures are reasonable.

too thick, i have had that problem before.

if it takes longer than ten minutes to dry at room temprature then you have sprayed too much.

two i second burst from 6 inches away from all sides etc is enough.
when dry apply another coat.

The warm water bath warms the material in the can making it flow better - not only for shaking but for spraying.

I tried the water bath. let the can sit in luke warm water for about 15 minutes, tried again, nothing different then I tried another painted miniature. the new mini I sprayed dried matte like it should. I really don\'t understand that at all...

kinda hard to think that its too thick after all these years of it working fine for me.

I\'ve recently come across this same problem with Dullcote. It looks like a satin coat instead of dead flat. This is over GW paints. I\'ve been using Testors Dullcote for about 20 years and never had this problem. I think there may be a bad batch out there. I\'m going to look for another can with different numbers on the bottom and hope that helps.
