Shipping costs

I'm trying to find out how much a 500g max parcel the size of a shoe box would cost to ship from California to the uk ( I'm in the uk)
It only needs to be the cheapest way, as long as it doesn't take six months to arrive. I'm being told it would cost upwards of $70 which i think is an extreme exageration. I need to know what service to use and cost.
Any help gratefully recieved.

Check USPS.com but it would help if you also had the exact measurements of the box as certain sizes as well as weight can throw you into different rates. Usually International First Class is a good way to go. Understand too that when it comes from the States and goes international, once it leaves our boarders, there's no tracking and usually any insurance goes out the window too. If insured and something happens, the mail companies end up blaming each other. Also there is DHL for international shipping but I have no idea how expensive they are.

I ended up shipping my miniatures when I moved back from the US to France. I used DHL services because they were able to deliver without using a third party (i.e. the national mail services), meaning I could track the package accurately.
The service was great, shipping time OK (about 1 week's time if I recall correctly), and the only model that needed to be glued back was a Monolith whose Flux arc separated (mind you, everything was in a Sabol case with foam insets).

I confirm that the price was somewhat expensive, but worth it in the end, so the 70$ you mention aren't surprising.

Well, that seems insane.

A shoebox sized box, less than two pounds? That should be around (or less) than $20.

I sent a big box, filled with a heavy board game, and plenty of goodies (from Iowa to Cornwall), and that only cost me 60 bucks.

I recently sent out two packages to Merry Olde England from the Colonies.

Both were related to the mini exchange, so light and small.

UPS, with a tracking number, was $107.
USPS/Royal Mail, without a tracking number, was $22.

I know the UPS package made it. I'm still waiting to hear if the USPS one did.
