Shoes for Shadowfax?

a Bit of an obscure question I know, but do you reckon it would look strange painting Gandalf\'s horse to look as if it had been shoed?
It would only be a tiny detail on the mini, but it would probably jump out at you if it wasn\'t supposed to be there.

well sort of, see as it wasnt shoed. the whole premise of shadowfax is that he is a legendary wildbeast, who works with gandalf cos he knows if he doesnt evrythingll go tits up with sauron. also the horse is white so it would really be noticeable. personaly i wouldnt, but its your mini

And another vote for no shoes. Shadowfax is/was is legendarily awesome and thus completely untameable by anyone other than Gandalf, and given he likes to do things elf-style, that means no horse-shoes.

I dunno I vote for shoes. He was owned by the king of Rohan before he was \"loaned\" to Gandalf. So really its a toss up. Even being the king of horses his hooves wouldnt be immune to wear under burden. Theodon and Aragorn still worn armor, why wouldnt Shadowfax have shoes.

ok nerd rant over, aesthetically Id probably say no shoes, but the nerd in me thinks thats too unrealistic.

I have to say, The horse-nerd in me agrees with you, but I vaguely recall the books making much of the fact that while Shadowfax was the pride of Rohan, they couldn\'t actually do anything with him because they weren\'t amazing enough. So they just kicked their heels until big G came along and \"tamed\" him.

shoes/no shoes.. Would it show? Bottom of the hooves should be a black/dark brown shadow color (unless he\'s rearing or something). Shoes should be a very dark iron/mild steel, not shiney mitheral shoes.

Yeah, they would show. The model shows the horse at a full gallop \"showing the very definition of haste\" so you can see the bottom of the hooves very clearly.

No way he had shoes though. He was a magical super horse who only let people think they owned him, or something. Like Gwaihir was to eagles. He wasn\'t one of those cool running through air on fire horses from Krull though, they were the bomb.

I\'m not clued up to the mythology, hence the question, I was going to do something like the shoes on this horse, it looks better than just plain hooves IMO.

I don\'t think that horse is supposed to be Shadowfax. It\'s the wrong colour! Anywho, it\'s your mini at the end of the day. Would you sculpt or just paint the shoes?

Yea, I just like this one more that the fig with the running pose, I was going to paint it on, but seeing as it is a possible GD entry, I just wanted make sure of the mythology.

Having looked at both, I can see why you prefer the standing one. Why do GW suck at horses SO much? It puts me off so badly.

To be honest though, i think whatever you do would pass by most of your \'audience\' (except us LOTR fanboys of course...you\'ll be lucky to get a 5 from me if you put shoes on him!! lol)

Joking aside, im looking forward to seeing it finished, shoed or nay (lol)

btw, do GW stores still sell the LOTR range? I missed them when they were released, but now im thinking of buying some (ebay? perhaps?)
