Great job on the pirate vignette.

I see you have both the old and new versions of the GW brushes. Have you noticed a difference in the new versions?

Leaps and bounds Johnboy. I feel that in the last 4/5 months you haven't just leveled up. You seem to have found the cheat book and progressed to the final boss. The face on the pirate is excellent but I have to say the real star for me is the beautiful aged dark wood of the base. absolutely lovely colour which ties the whole scene together marvelously

BAM, how many figures/weeks/days/hours does a brush usually last you? Can you describe the Citadel brushes' characteristics (say, relative to W&N, which I've started using and I assume many people have as a reference point)?

W/n are a better brush. As far as materials.they hold their point and are able to hold more wet paint longer so you can execute your techniques. But they are 20 dollars a brush ..citadel for a quarter of the price holds its point as well but I find that for glazing they work the best for me and the consistency I use for my paints....they won't last as long as a w/n being synthetic but again for a quarter of the price. A brush for me w/n because they are nice and stiff and hold a great point I will use for detail work eyes etc...the Raphael Kareem synthetic I'll use for 2 brush blending as Thier 2 and 3 hold wet point longer and last even longer being synthetic...and the GW I'll use for layering (glazing etc) again depending on the model and how I feel I might use blending,or and layering etc...it depends on how I'm feeling....true story...as far As how long ...several weeks as long as I'm cleaning each brush thoroughly after use. Also as long as when I load the brush I only dip the tip in the paint .lpaint must NEVER hit the crimping(where the metal meets the brush) this is how you'll kill your brushes as the dried paint will force the bristles apart and they'll spindle.hope this helps I'm up early at 5 :59 and decided to answer this in bed..lol

That's good to know. There are a few different GW brushes that I really love and was concerned when the new brushes were introduced and saw that all the descriptions changed from Kolinsky Sable on the old brushes to just Sable on the new line.

Yeppers not to worry each strand of a synthetic has longer and fatter micro resovoires thus making it capable of holding wet paint(diluted) longer ...thus making wet on wet blending much more user friendly .....basically when thinning the edge into the color beneath the paint "just plain does and goes where you need it too!". As for how many models I've gotten all my Vikings done with the gaunt summoner my pirate and his base and my ultramarine all done with the same 2 brushes and I see no end in sight yet for it...so that's around 10 miniatures and bout 100ds of hours of work so far.

That tzeench summoner has a strong "Benicio Del Toro" influence.... I do not quite like the mini, but your work is as always top of the top...

Laughed a lot with that " I can clearly see it's not painted because it has no blood splatter in it" xD xD

Your Portuguese pirate is a beautiful work, I agree with Darthmarsh on the wood. Its excellent, at least in my opinion.

Got the very same well pallete and an alluminium one with bigger wells.... the only bad thing about it is that you eventually need to wash it because you run out of clean wells..... :struggle:

Since this has apparently become confessional... I typically prefer well pallettes, too! I use an aluminum one (I think I bought it from MIG) that I really like, but I ordered a ceramic palette on Amazon after I saw BAM's new toy. Hopefully it will arrive soon. I really like the size of aluminum one because... I store it in a lidded wet palette to keep the paint from drying overnight! I have used and at times really enjoyed the wet palette, and will definitely use it again (I love the range of tones you can achieve from pools of your main colors), but I also feel like I've improved by relying more upon glazes of color, which wells virtually demand. I always use soft (cloth) abrasives to get it clean, as any scoring (which is inevitable with plastic well palettes) holds little bits of paint, schmutz, or anything else. I imagine the ceramic palette basically eliminates this issue, which is why I bought it (even the aluminum one can be abraded pretty easily, and will leave tiny metal particles in the wells which will then get painted on if you're not careful).
Anyway, if you can and don't, try storing the well palette in a humidor (my Masterson Sta-Wet, in my case) to preserve those nice colors you mixed from one session to the next!

Never tried a well palette... Or a wet palette either. I use a plate stolen from the kitchen. I get in no end of trouble if I forget to clean it and the missus has to pick off multicolour paint scabs off it...
