Looks awesome, BAM! Really like the skintone and blends. Like always, I have no real advice to give haha, but keep up the amazing work!

Very nice! I really like the weathering on the axe head.

Since you're planning on making this a competition piece, I'd love to see some sort of story element to the base. I was trying to brainstorm some ideas for what that could be. It was a little tough, but I'm sure you can put some thought into it and come up with a few ideas. The only suggestion I have right now is what if you put him breaking into a house. Like this guy just kicked down the door (and given his size, probably a good chunk of the wall too) and is about to attack some poor hapless family. You don't need to have any other figures, just the broken building and stuff strewn about the floor. Sort of like how I did my Saxon Raider piece. Considering the size of this guy, maybe he's kicking in a barn door instead of a regular house door. If you want to try that, you can find packs of balsa wood at your local arts and crafts store (Michaels, AC Moore, etc) for pretty cheap. While you're there, you might want to pick of a mitre saw in case you don't already have one. This should make cutting the pieces to size much easier

And here's some links to when I was doing the base for the Saxon

Of course that's just one possibility. Put some thought into it, you may come up with a much better idea. But it's definitely a help in competitions if there's another level to the piece beyond just the painting of the figure.

Holy shit bails I'm going to give this some hard thought and hopefully be able to execute something along those lines. Now of something gets a bit to crazy ill see how brave your right though from what I've seen your pieces always tell amazing stories. Sad thing though I need to find a line between a great story and good effects of narrative and not go into something that's far behind my skill level as a modeler!!! :-( lol will be going to michaels for that saw I don't believe I've ever used or heard of one.lol

Well, I'm sure you could create something neat. If you wanted to do the building (or partial building), the balsa wood and mitre saw should help you out. I'd guess the saw and box are around $15. Typical ones are setup for cuts at 90 degrees and 45 degrees. Though I've seen some that offer more options. If you don't already have a selection of balsa wood, they've got bags with a variety of sizes for $5-10 I believe.

If you want to mimic destruction, the balsa wood is great too. You can build a door (cut the pieces to size, glue it together, let it dry) and then break it apart. The wood will break and smash, then you can glue the pieces on the ground in front of your monster. Before you break it up, be sure to have a go at it with your hobby knife. The balsa is a bit too uniform. So round off those edges, add some chips and scrapes. Again, take a look at the bare version I did on the Saxon. You can see how the main post is all cut up to make it look more realistic. And, while I didn't smash up a door, I did build a chair and then broke it apart for the Saxon base. I think you could do something neat with this guy, though you may come up with an even better idea than mine. Keep me posted, I'm happy to offer advice on construction if you decide to go that way.

By the way, the story nature to the pieces is a big deal in diorama (of course) and large scale. But it can help entries in any category stand out. I'm not sure a lot of people really take advantage of that in the monster category, so it could help yours shine!

Im all or Bailey's idea, you're already great at painting so it's time to get more ambitious with modelling, the worst that can happen is it goes wrong but you might learn something

Yes yes sickies it's been discussed in greater length through seemingly endless texts over the last week...let's just say I'm def going to use all the tools, tricks and confidence that David gave me.he has done so so much for me and my happiness in regards to the help he always is willing to give me. Any time of the day I text him ,even with his new daughter ,the precious Colette ,he always gets back to me.hes def a person I could see running for president and winning easily.he has also been responsible for my 3 crystal trophies he gave me all the ideas, from which categories to go in and what models to choose and how they are to be presented.any time I get advice most of the time I'll weigh it say thanks and move on as with 26 years experience ,multi awards and publications I know a bit about miniature painting.however when baily03 Gives me a piece of informative advice,I take it and use it and will always remember it,and get better at it even if the next year it's all I do.hes an extremely gifted ,talented, and intelligent person.he really is the only one ill always take advice from.so after this comp and before the other 2 MFCA and NOVA OPEN hopefully ill have better modeling skills to get by with some sweet ideas!
thanks sickies for all your comments and agreement that I take up this venture.:)

Crikey, didn't realise how big this guy was until I saw the unfortunate guy on the base.

Really awesome work. I'm particularly fond of the gloves ;)

Oh man, you really blasted him out in no time! He looks amazing.
The subtle differences in color that you often favor really stand out on this big bopper. Some of my favorite parts are the axe-head, the jewels, and the scale mail! I think you could stand a few tan highlights on the grass (nice touch!), since it would likely be dormant and sere in the winter time. Outstanding work!

Looks great BaM. The painting is as always top notch. Not sure I like the figure (I think it's the face; it's too hard to tell if he's happy, angry, sad), but you've really done a cracking job of making all the textures different yet complementary.
