Those last photographs are super sharp, I always liked pictures with that definition. Gave Janet some love for those. ;)
Also I voted and commented on the gallery, though I haven't got much to say/add.

@meaty_nosebleeds: Great to read you again, I smile every time I see your profile picture. hahaha Looking forward those works from yours....

Thanks all you guys are the reason I'm blessed!!!
Guawol - big thanks if you look through my gallery I'm a liver of tarnished steel, rusty metals etc etc. I've basically made it a mainstay in my painting. It's been real good to me even earning me some accolades as well .so although IDE like to venture other things ill NEVER stop doing it especially for competition. It's something diff from what you see on here. Works for me !!! Thank you again bud! If you want to know more its on this thread how I get that finish!!!

I'll definitely have to look for it (searching 318 pages of posts can take awhile ) I'm working on a crashed ship terrain piece right now and I know the metallics on it could use a good weathered finish.

In that case what you'll need
1) basecoat chainmail
2) wash in nuln oil or black paint diluted. Not one wash but about 4 I do this 4 on all my washes getting less and less diluted as you approach the recesses and deepest shades.
3) wash in the cracks Bestial bbrowns ash in then with vermin brown and put random dabs of this wash in puddles at various random parts of the model.
5) chainmail and mithril highlight
6 ) add mithril in a Lil more at a 1:1 2:1 3:1 ratio
8) using just mithril outline any edge highlighting and outlining of the shapes as well.
8) using a extremely diluted agrax earthshade glaze (but as a wash) the entirety of the armored area. When fine add scratches in mithril silver plus a bit of white .. Diff directions and diff lengths.
9) redeveloped HL all edgings and shapes and viola!!!

Slambo turned out really nice BAM, interesting to see your metals recipe there too.

As excellent as the metals are though I have to agree with whoever said its all in the eyes.....crazy how such a well executed tiny detail can really bring something to life.

Thanks Hairston so much..regarding the OSL here's what I did

1) use some diluted (not too much) WHITE PAINT and I painted it carefully in his visor opening where his eyes would be....I also spilled this white paint over onto the edge highlighting of the rim of the visors where the glow would catch from the eyes.
2) I used bloodletter red in several coats on the whites in the visor and the efgehigjlighting where the glow would catch.
3) after a few applications(3 approx) on the inside of the visor where the eyes would be and the rimming where the glow from the eyes would catch,I then added some carrots burg crimson to the bloodletter red and then just hit the rimming (because as the glow from the osl luminates further out from its Origen it becomes a weaker glow...the a darker red glaze was used to simulate this on the edgings of the visor keeping the brighter color in the eyes themselves as they are the origin of the glow(OSL).
4) I then used a bit of white paint (a bit thick as this is the consistency I need to dab in the actual white eyes) and dabbed it in.
5) I then took the Bloodletter red glaze and again went back in over those eyes I've dabbed in to blend it in with the rest.

its all about pure white paint and then glazing your desired color in and keeping in mind that as as the glow gets further out the intensity of the glow gets less intense hence darker glazes over that area of white.

So quick question, would the washes you used for the weathered steel have a similar effect on Ultramarine blue armor. I want to weather up the blue a bit on my crashed ship model, and I'm not 100% how to weather it without messing up the blue coloring.
