Yeah demi always been good at eyes if you look at the stretcher project he did it's really clear on p and p it shows iris pupils and light catch. The image on cmon is a little fuzzy look on p and p it's clear and it's impressive,

Jeez, that sounds really terrible John. Squeeze your loved ones close. I think the dot helps. I have also noticed that some of those details that are so small you can't really see have a net effect that looks really good in hand. My favorite thing about showing my minis to people is when they look at the mini for a second and then gasp and ask, "did you paint that detail?"

Yeah, this is a really great community with super talented and super nice people!

I keep changing my mind on the Crystal Brush entries, but ideally it will be the mounted knight with the banner for the poorly named historical vehicle or monster category (still need to finish most of the horse and a little bit of the rider), the Saxon for historical single, the Officer of the Guide for Large Scale (though I may work on another possible entry in the coming months), and hopefully something for fantasy single. I'm not happy with the one entry per category rule (last year they allowed two). It's a freaking painting show, why would they want to have fewer entries?!?!? And I'd much rather enter two or more in a couple categories and let the judges decide which is best.

These are 3 of my entries I have undead bust for the large / the knightmare for fantasy single / and the Viking for historical single. My ork nobz for sci FI group /my blight kings for fantasy squad/ a chibi Cthulhu for chibi and a brute for best dark age single... And my newest I'm working on now is forgeworld ork warboss on a bike for scifi vehicle. That's 7 entries and 21 shots to win a first thru 3rd. I'm certain of 1 thing do I feel I can win uhh yeah but I can certainly say I'm going to have the judges declare a "tough time picking" especially with the undead bust. The undead bust is simple I worked my but off however looking through necrotic tissue and how blood pools on certain portions of the skin due to no circulation. I have baily placing first on whatever he enters. Wich leaves now 14 slots available for me to hopefully win. I'm the most confident I've ever felt with painying and that's largely due to feedback on the forums. 1thing is certain "I DEF FEEL I HAVE AN OUTSIDE SHOT" I just might get a crystal. I just might. If not at lest I feel I belong there in the competition with my standard of painying.

Baily I was just thinking I'm always super impressed by you among all so if the hobbit with the lantern scored you so high in the history of cmon why not enter that into the diorama that actually is something that could would and should win the crystal brush 10,000 check don't you think so....I mean I've judged small events all over the tri state area and that is not only well painted to the highest standard but that whole execution of a the hobbit in kirkwood I feel really is 5 he icing on the cake and the oven to boot..please listen to me on this one that's the check winner...

Thanks! I wish I could bring it along, it'd be really neat to see how it did next to the top contenders. Unfortunately I already entered it into a contest, two actually. Anything entered into a publicized competition or published in magazines, box art, etc is ineligible for Crystal Brush. I wouldn't be surprised if entries in the past had fudged that rule a bit, but I get the feeling this one would get noticed. I never expected it to get the extreme reaction it did from the online community. If I'd known I would have held off on the other contests and saved it for Crystal Brush!

Took the liberty of giving browse @baily
white catch lite @ter @dems.

still need to sweep the model now from a ton of angles. Think Johnny also needs a eye exam. I so don't want to admit I'm getting older.
@ DR the pics helped. But I def ain't an alexiz a Haley or any of those pro professional. Gee whiz DR couldn't you give me somebody more comparable to my level. It doesn't matter what I do if the pros show up.

John, my godfather and father were the ones who taught me to shoot and they said, no point in aiming wide always try to hit the target. (And my Godfather came out of a "You miss, you're Fecked" scenario intact!)
My point is that regardless of whether it's 28, 54 or 75 mm scale aim tight and close to get the best. Bailey's observations about placement are damn true too, even if we differ slightly on opinions about the scaling thing. I'd tend to still do the best I could to get eyes showing on smaller scales.

As an aside I watched the movie on Saturday that this figure is taken from...."King Arthur"......the most kindest thing I can say about it "Excrable".
I don't rate Keira Knightly as an actress or a looker so that didn't help and as for the gross historical and geographical inaccuracies ............"Blech"
I was born and raised in the shadow of Hadrian's wall, I've walked along it's remains and I've read enough of the history of the times to realise that Hollywood can really make total Bollox of this.

The only good thing in the movie:-
  1. Stellan Skarsgård
    Actor
As this character Cerdic.

AND John I understand the feeling of helplessness about the death outside your home, the senselessness and waste hits home.
A tragic loss affects witnesses and those around more than people realise, PTSD isn't confined to veterans, my best friend is a cop who has attended TOO many things like this and sought counselling after it was pointed out to him he was repeating things after a particularly bad experience.
Don't be afraid to talk to someone, before it's too late.

John you are one of the true daily heros in my book for trying to save a man's life. All we can do is try and remember we are here to support you.

Btw, you have an excellent set of entries and the current mini has such a sad and yet gritty look to him that is intriguing. When you post this guy, he will be added to my favorites list.

I Ave a little history lesson of my own this is from 2 reasons 1)someone had said to me this will not be in historical model it will be bumped to large fantasy. Because it is based on a movie character..well if you look on the title of the model it's says cedric the saxon..well weather it be Ivanhoe Walters costs notion of cerdic is based on cerdic-the firest king of wessex .it's a saxon plain and simple as stated based on the name cedric and based on the name cerdic which is french for the saxon king...it doesn't say Stellan skarsgard nor does it speak of fantasy it IS based on the historical figure cerdic the first saxon king of wessex and I have facts to prove it..even king Arthur is based on sir ambrose...when you look at a model that's a polish Lancer it's titled as such a polish Lancer not john dumas the famous Lancer no just polish lancer.there 2 as a saxon king names cerdic which then the French call him cedric and movie or no movie itsbased on historical facts.

I agree with you, the figure is meant to portray a historical character (either a specific king or just a generic saxon) so it should go into historical. That it resembles an actor shouldn't matter. I'm not sure who told you the figure would be bumped, but unless they were affiliated with the competition I would not worry about it too much. Crystal Brush has plenty of entries into large scale and not that many into historical. So it seem ridiculous to me that they'd go out of their way to deny a historical entry.

That's what Im say g I think he's in the same boat with me as the model has shut eyes if you look really carefully you can see that the black he's painted were the start of eyeballs considering what he has to work with he's creating the eyes like I had to do only I used Lil balls of putty...here as it's not meant to be zoomed in on would look fine as In person you really as baily said have to get up close and personal to realize it's a painters illusion trick relying on real life handling which wouldn't catch it...I've seen a handful of great artists using this as its not a bad thing or a screw up its a trick of illusion just as if when we paint in darker colors for depth..I was trying to explain it this way...I should've calmed down that night and chose my words more carefully as this was all I was trying to bring out...it's not bad artwork more of illusion based on the figure and what and what cannot be automatically seen in real life perspective I should've have shown this instead of eaxles of dems and teronus...I can see now how it looked like I was attacking and believe me guys that wasn't my intention..like I said to teronus and dems when does anybody on here know me not to take criticism ..I always do and then fix it you all know me better than that..forgive me readers that Def wasn't my I tension I value dems and teronus critic w/O it I would never pull off some of my better projects with which they have both helped out a significant amount for.

Well it's interesting about your experience with the man dying. We paint these violent subjects as part of a fantasy but, this particular mini, to me, looks like he is mortified by the violence he has witnessed. He looks like he has been forced to bloody his sword against his will. I think you are channeling some of your experience into your paint job here.
