K folks in turning in. It's 9:30 pm here in the states on the east coast... Started at 9:22 am this morning and took 2 breaks and a few smokes(still trying to quit btw) that's 12 hrs painting. Keep in mind I do this craft all day everyday. It's not that I'm fast I just have a very blessed abnormal life(that I wouldn't change for all the minis in the world) I have a wonderful hobby supportive fiancé.and loads of precious time since I badly injured my dominant shoulder/arm and became disabled 3 years ago. Do I'm thankful I can still paint and paint alot. I will leave you with a mediocre photo and take a proper one tomorrow before starting the backpack/banner.View attachment 30215

BaM I have recently decided to try to medically retire from the Army. It was a tough decision that I have just come to after this last year in the Army. It's been a frustrating one, but one that I am very thankful to God was resolved in the way it was. Ultimately, I am unable to lead Soldiers like I used to, because of physical and mental disabilities that I have suffered from since my first tour in 2007 in Iraq. Of course, it's ultimately not up to me if I am released from duty, nor the amount of retirement I would receive, but all of my friends have been very well taken care of that have med boarded out. Plus I have over $100k to spend on my education (I'm a senior in college). Just seems like the right time. Anyway , I may be joining you in this lifestyle soon. Plus I'll move to the East Coast more than likely :)

Bud I'm kinda happy for you I know it's in your blood but let me tell you after I was injured I lost my job my physicist, my career and all the things that have me a fun and fulfilling life. But if I never had gotten hurt I never would've met Janet View attachment 30218 and never would've been able to spend time with my ailing mom and def never would've put all I learned and researched into mini painting. Again my girl is my backboneView attachment 30219 and she supports me thru my hobby . My point is bud I'm so happy I torn my arm up because I have recieved much more valuable a thing. Love of my girl and love for the hobby that I'm good at. It's funny bud but all things do happen for a reason and its always something better behind the next door. So change although it hurts at first I can tell you your going to be so much happier. It takes a special guy to admit if he don't pull out the squad may be in danger . I know you'll always bleed red white and blue. But honestly man America basically is saying "great job Ben, your 1 hell of a soldier , but we cannot ask anymore of you . You have been amazing to your country and fellow man , it's time for me to say the tours over bud you've been amazing and thankyou for your service to the greatest country in the world!" That's what America is telling you. Now you can get in with other life fulfillments. So take this at face value. Your one of the lucky ones. You were chosen by hod to live thru all the fighting to get to this point right here right now. America is saying thanks em , now go enjoy an easy life and paint away. Btw were all proud of you. Really proud. Good job son. REMEBER you lived to get to here now go enjoy models and the slower things in life. Enjoy the rest of your life bud. If you ever moved here wede have a blast model painting and crazy jokes. Yiu know funny guy shit!! Really proud of you Ben. That special guy you'll always be nothing less. Now YOU GET TO ENJOY OTHER THINGS BUD, so go do it.

Long live miniature painting.and the us army!:)

Really looking good. The banner is a tad shiny, if it wasn't still drying you may want some matte sealer on the banner.

Hey thanks for the kind words BaM. I'm looking forward to starting a new career. I may be jumping the gun a bit, because nothing is official as of yet, but I am fairly confident that it will end in a med retirement.

The space marine looks great. I am not much of a Sci if guy myself, but I must say that I've looked through many of the hero type sculpts from GW and FW and there is just sooo much potential there. Many towering space knight typed with cool weapons. I like the new Salamander space marine dude from FW.

Be easy with that Lahmian medium. It is actually a glaze medium, so if you are trying to knock down the glossiness it won't work for that effect and could potentially make it worse. I use Lahmian for all of my dilutions. Pure Lahmian unless it's a wash then I add water. But if I have to use a lot of it, for example to make a glaze with a base paint (meaning a high pigment paint) I will add a drop or two of matt medium just because the Lahmian can leave a sort of wet and glossy look if it's too thick.

View attachment 30233Yeah I swear by it. Mine always comes out Matt when I shake the crap out of ot. I def am on the same agreement I use it for all my shadow glazes. But for diluted highlights I use something totally diff(reaper flow improver(takes all those pigment flakes and gives a thinned out concentration that is uniform throughout.) also a drying retartsent(as I'm a dry well painter) and these two drops 1 from each usually gets my consistancy right in the mark. I've also used a wet PALLETTE but live the dry well much more. Just a preference. Yeah bud citadel make some awesome minis. Although I'm not a gamer I do like the fluff and mythos behind the SM chapters , chaos powers etc. I really feel types of models are what is the make or break of a style. Iow I live painting citadel GW models. You see I'm used to the folds , contours etc that each of their models has sculpted on. It's these models that help my style go hand in hand and give me the results I've practiced a life time to achieve a huge knots book has em all written down. I don't really varnish my models for display as it modifies the colors a bit. But I always looked for a Lil gloss and also a Matt type. After searching for this specific look I e found semi gloss varnish. It's Mazing like eg the space marines armor had a reflective surface that the semi gloss brings out. So now it's what I use when I varnish . It also deepens my colors makes them appear more statuettes which I love. Btw Danny at white dwarf said he's going to get my orks to appear in .... Get this .. You ready... VISIONS !!! Hell let me know when I'm in there. I finally am where I deserved to be. In the biggest gabby magazine based on the greatest hobby in this whole world mini painting. I love this shit. It's incredible the whole thing !!woooo hooo

He's the bizziness, only wee gripe is the 'ultra' on the banner, i think it needs a lil' tlc.... on the flow release i use golden, i've had a bottle of it for 7 years, i'll prolly get cremated with it, but it works great. I tend not to use glazes with mediums but will protect areas with matt varnish or testors dullcote brush on (needs thinned at min 50/50 with cellulose thinners). There are some area like metallics and light highlights that testors just murders if its to neat. Some folk like to gloss varnish a mini to richen the colours before dullcote... ain't tried it, but for display i think different surface finishes can be epic, and why not! Methinx i'll have a wee trial with some... night buudy zzzzz
