Wow, you work fast!

I'm excited to see you're doing an entry for the historical category at Crystal Brush. They definitely need more high quality entries in that category. The Nocturna figure is a good choice. By the way, have you been on Nocturna's facebook page recently? Dec 14 they're doing an Indiegogo project titled Ragnarok. I don't have any titles other than the title, but since you're interested in Vikings you may want to keep an eye out and see what Nocturna is up to.

Wow BAM, your incredible bud... 1 hour LOL that's the time it take me just to get comfortable at my table then 1/2 hour to to gaze in emptiness, flying away in my head, come back to hearth and then maybe do at last some work. It's incredible how many different style of painters and paintings. sometimes I feel intimidated by painters who paint fast great stuff all the time, well I got to admit that is far from me, I don't think that it will never be me. I will paint maybe few good one a year and that's it. And stop praising me on my 17 y/o Slayer Sword, nobody except you and me cares. In the world of miniatures painting of today I just a small fish in the ocean, until I win a sword again I am just a nobody. Those awards I got was just because I invested so much energy and time, I am not a productive painter I am a passionate painter, if I need to sacrifice 5 years of my life to get a Sword I will do, but some ppl out there just do GD entry snapping 2 fingers together, me it took me one year of my free time, I was working 60 hours shift in a restaurant and at night i would paint until the early morning. I sacrificed one year for my Chaos Dragon, I am no genius who decide do do GD like that. If it takes 10 years so be it, I will work on another GD entry.

You know painting slow or fast I always tell folks it's mainly two reasons. 1) being disabled 3 years ago gave me alot of time on my hands so I did what any of us would do ...lol I began thinking of well what do I do that can take away an emptiness Inside the pit of my gut..so I knew painting models was my second live..it quickly became My first.2nd reason I use a lot of the same techniques with the same type of pallette..now as far as being intimidated by others.it's just cause you been away a bit and mini painting now has a set of steps and text book ways of doing so.I really feel that you'll increase quickly due to the four data on and passion you put into your work currently is the same passion you put into it years ago. When I first came on here I was a 6 average painter but the forums and painting cyber society helps everyone I feel increase their skills 10 fold.you'll see in a year man what happens..at that point never let it go .it's an important thing to all of us,creating little realistic minis.I'm telling ya Joc your gonna see.
Thanks baily and bfok means alot from you 3.thanks krule your the goods. Painting slow is the better way to go .I just have too much time on my hands.lol

In any cases bro you help me getting my confidence back and that is huge. I just sometimes feel out of place because i come back from so long... But that is me again i feel out of place intimidated and lost at first but after a while when things settle in my mind i feel confident and I strive. I know I have the skills I just need to learn the curves.

Look jocelyn it's PERFECT normal to come back form a long illness scribed layoff.it really is..that part of you is the competitive part, and that's OK m8.awhile back when you won your sword you didn't say I'm entering g GD.you were going their to win the overall prize, which is a tall glass of water, but you did it.this shows me your competitive and that's more than understanding bud.your gonna see though how quick (I'm not going to say to learn how to paint, you already know that).you'll learn the tools for these current competitiins.your gonna see where your niche lies.is it still dragons, or are you now bent on learning non metallic metals,or do you love and have a strong point (for tone variation, which is tricking the eye to be pleased when looking at a model). I happen to love green (orks and nurgle) @ I love trun metallics.but other than that I really done come out of my zone especially for comp time.one thing that's Ide say easier to learn is tone variations.let's take my ork squad.I normally before researching color theory used to shade green with a darker green then highlight with a lighter green.the eye is seeing green...now let's fast forward to how I paint a green today. 1) I use a deep red to shade green (red is the compliment -meaning that the color opposite green on the wheel is red, mean the two complimentary colors show all 3 primaries to the eye in those to colors.as a rule you shade a color with its complimentary cool (cool meaning I add a blue or a purple to that red) then I highlight with analogous warm (analogous colors lie next to one another so maybe a yellow green or a yellow but to make it warm I add a beige to it as beige is close to yellow) all these colors added in is aesthetically pleasing to the overall viewing of one's eyes.

2 examples of what I've just demonstrated are as followed
attachment.php
this guy is my older style all shades and HL are green based.
Now this guy is deeper ,richer more pleasing to one's eye because the compliment cool colors, and the HL analogous warm colors are more pleasing to one's eyes you see bud.
attachment.php
hence the first model (freg booster pirate ork is no tone variativariations all greens.but the second one (power claw) has reds and purples going into greens going into beige yellow greens. See the tones are varied to introduce more colors in the eye viewing.....overall a more pleasing to the eye.

Yes that is exactly what I miss, i bit of color theory. I am going to pay a lot of attention to that, the pieces are falling slowly in place, thank for the tip mate. :)

No problem it's become impossible to compete nowadays without everyone using color theory so out of all the techniques tone variation is the easiest to grip and give immediate increase in skills when used.if you need anything at all regarding what are the best possible color combos Inc shades and highlights I'm here for you anytime of thevday.after I make you through it 1nce or 2 wice it'll be second nature....bottom line the more colors you introduce the better painted it will look..look at the 12 color color wheel and any color you choose opposite it is the complI'm ent to shade and anything next to your color used is your highligt. Lemme know if you need anything...well shake that rust of..you've actually practiced this theory when you did your newest post the armor on the alahan guard from rackham has diff colors in the armor.well done

I am getting there, practice and practice. My next piece should be interesting.

You should look up Sprocket on here. He is around quite often. Anyway, he won a Sword at GDUK about 20 years ago, came back and won the 2013 Slayer Sword for GDUK. And he also took a huge break. Just shows that it's like riding a bike.

He is also a slow painter, like you, who invests a ton of energy into his projects.

I dreamed that it was attacking me !!! Hehe always nice to see you having fun with you crazy passion, I just wish sometimes I could be more like that, for me it's almost a matter of life or death kinda say, I am always on edge to perform at top of my power or else I find I waste my time, just to get my brush back when i came back in 2010 I did huge amount of vampire counts, over 2 years or so. I hate that, I wanted the old Joce back right away but it didn't worked like that LOL anyway if you want to see my Table stuff too I can post it in my thread.
