The changes to the base definitely make the mini more interesting. Well done and congrats on getting published again.

Just wanted to throw in a small step by step in the flesh and how I rebooted my thought process since reading JBT "figopedia . As I've mentioned awhile back that after the model is prepped primed and base colored ill start with global shading and highlighting, meaning that ill take all the LARGEST shapes if the model and shape them using some of my darker /darkest shadows . Things like pecs, thighs ,shoulders torsos -all of these resemble shapes eg/pecs/shoulders are spheres ,swords and waist are rectangles /squares etc Etc. I only approach the larger surfaces and at this point I ignore the smaller shapes(muscles like serrated or intercostals on rib cage ,abdomenals, etc. and ill highlight the highest point of the places opposite where the shades are and add highlights again to shape the objects and their shapes .
After this is done ill blend these in to be smoother ,and at this point ill start to lay in the midtone colors !!! The midtones are your BASECOLORS. So rem BASECOLORS is midtone and is applied to wide areas such as torsos thighs etc. these rules of thumb DO NOT CHANGE!as you can see in the last two photos .

at this point ill start working in the smaller muscles etc, like the intercostals etc. and any other questions in this routine which I really am enjoying, ill try to hopefully answer them.

View attachment 41157This is the leader of the blood reader unit!! Lived the sculpt ever since I saw it! Btw I've come up with my sci fi unit got CB I will not be showing it until the contest clears now even set it stone "supposedly" I am liberal enough to change. But here's a hint thru are a specialty if mine and I always said for comp go with the strengths !!! So hang on to your hats they are a total of 6 models and the greatest thing bout crystal brush is you don't need to have them game legal. Yaaaya

AHHHHHHHH I shall answer this ! Me everybody knows I'm the worst at everything about this hobby regarding basing ,modeling ,converting etc.I try to have my strengths rely strictly on color theory, color selection (always a combo of warm and cool shades (reds and blues) as you can see in my models) and blending along with strong technical prowess...what I mean by game legal not be I g an issue is:games workshops golden demon the squad category needs to be able to field on a gaming board ,like a cavalry regiment cannot have a bunch of mixed (riders and non riders) it has to coincide with the rules of units...but crystal brush DOES NOT have to adhere to any game rules, hell I can choose to paint up 5 ork wizards if I want and call it the orky school of magic...you see so my squad of wonderful models I have planned will be for me containing loads of cool individual character models....you see.cool right yes it's awesome I know..lmao I LOVE IT.

Basing your minis is as much work as painting them. Take a look through galleries and see how many are built up. I very rarely use gaming bases unless its a very quick job or a tabletop or gaming project like I do every year for The NOCF.

*thumbs up* What do you use to do your bases? I'm still getting the basic sand and static grass technique right. But just so I have an idea.

I know this question or comment will come up so ill address it now. The shading is not black under the armpits and the camera and lighting are making it appear as such. Here's a more diffused light source (natural room lighting) that's shows how the models and their skin look in reality.View attachment 41176View attachment 41177View attachment 41178

I thought your trademark was the blood cuts and slices. I notice those all the time. And always they fit into the model which is great
