For the sake of discussion, can we make a distinction between metal proper and heavy music in general? Now, I'm not going to determing who enters those categories (I'll leave that to experts), which I think we should call 'true metallic metal' (TMM for short) and 'non-metallic metal' (NMM), which includes music which, while stylistically similar in meaningful ways (prevalence of bass; either aggressive driving rhythms or plodding dirge-like or industrial ones; dramatic, stylized, or bombastic vocals), nevertheless encompasses elements considered anathema to the stylistic mainstream (female vocals; acoustic interludes; colored fabric). So, which do you prefer, TMM or NMM?

Where do you draw the line?
Refused would technically be punk, but if forced to chose a metal band I would without a doubt go oldschool trash, with Slayer.
