Tip of the day- guys everybody has a routine when they do things- this is an order of operations- when painting minis began it was a simple model-prime- basecolors- washing in shades and highlighting - details. Painting models is now an art form. It’s by far well past this older model. Now it can consist of anything and everything. You all do it it’s an autopilot - muscle memory on a smaller muscle scale. Hands fingers etc. working in tandem with the ocular system(eyes). People go thru a set number of steps maybe not always in order but always the same steps. For me I jump all around the model when I paint. As each part issemu conplete I’ll bring the others up to that and start again. The thing that can’t be taught and comes with practice is knowing how far to push each part into finality and completion. This is what I know well it came with being honest and declaring to myself that I’m not fully happy with something. I hear all the time that folks think certain stages are complete and really they never are I just know where to go hit more or keep things the same. This has become part of my everyday painting routine . For example one of my steps is after I feel I’ve done everything to an appropriate balance. At the very end of my painting I’ll go in and very sparingly use white glazed to emphasize the highest most illuminated parts of the model. Now in doing so I may feel at that point I need a bit more contrast everywhere else. My point is just because a model is blended and shaded and highlighted doesn’t mean it can be called finished as you may go further and realize” BOOM NOW THATS THE LOIK IVE BEEN AFTER” take a chance don’t be scared. If your not truly satisfied keep going.

Now I’ll start to tidy things up in the front and finish off the back highlights than from their back to the front head. View attachment 64377View attachment 64378View attachment 64379View attachment 64380Just so everybody knows yes I do paint the backs of my models. However I always give you the best shots called the GOLDEN ANGLES” same that you’ll see in white dwarf.
Enjoy: BAM!!! My strength is this notion- if I wanted to paint 10- or even 100 of these things adding some conversions and a banner ide say I might have a shot to make constantly the finals at uks golden demon.wpuld I say my skills would have me win demons consistently -HELLLS NOOO!!! Maybe once in a while if I catch some of the bigger names sleeping. But hey I’m not even in my peak yet!!!!

It’s getting close an I’m getting anxious !!! I guess crystal brush always has that effect on me. Derek will tell you. My girl will tell you more!!!lol putting on some last minute adjustments. I’ve been speaking to John Harrison. He told me “I’m an extremely SOLID well rounded painter.coming from him that’s means everything to me and I’ll never lie I admit it. That’s why we compete and show our models. So.. I buy my bases from him like the one you see here. What a great guy and always willing to help out on what to do as far as how folks judge what to look for what he can help I Better people !!! What a great guy. Amazing how many folks you meet that you become friends with and it feels like their talking to you as a close friend talks to you on the phone. At that moment you realize your half way across the worlds waters . :((
anyway here’s a base I bought and will buy much more from his shop. View attachment 64381

Bye yes the folks if anybody comments you boast about it. Be proud of it. That’s what we’re all on here for right. It’s why there’s galleries etc. it’s so people can be wowed by the amazing things we create. At least this goes for the 99% of the people on these forums who feel like I do.

I'm sure you won't have too much to worry about at CB BaM. Not judging by the work you've done so far! I'm looking forward to the third guy in Nurgle's trio

Foxy - when an accomplished artist (YOU) tells another accomplished artist (ME) that right there is why I PAINT miniatures. I get to look at these things all day/ night anytime of day specifically when under lamp while painting them. However when someone else is WOWED by my creations ...that is why I do what I do. Thank you much . My dear friend FOXTAIL.:)

2nd time

Baily was nice and patient enough to explain to me his method of stippling. Like everything else Otis t as easy as I thought and requires a bit of practice. I’m getting better at understanding the steps and the first time was on that pitted armor simulation on my DIMITRI VON GORAY - vamp bust. Being it was large rounded and flat areas it tended to be much more forgiving and worked immediately from start to finish. The second time was on the hats of the bile piper . It took 3 diff passes to get the first pattern alone and each time I tidied up in between(I tidy up each and every part at every stage -THERES THAT ROUTINE THING HOING ON AGAIN LIKEI Mentioned EARLIER IN THE THREAD) SO AGAIN FOLKS PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. I’ll be using this technique quite a bit in the future as it’s one of the most used techniques nowadays and produces lovely effects for textures on armor, metals, leathers, skin etc etc.

Hey BAM. Nice work as always. Very Nurgley....if that's a word. The Dark Messiah plinth you have on your vampire...been meaning to buy a handful for a while now but haven't due to sizing etc when some are called just large or small. What size are you using to give me an idea.

Okay jo so heres what I will say I’m using for the vampirethe 60mm diameter with the 65mm length. It has the vampire shoulders bleeding over it by a few mm. Iow itsbout the same size diameter wise as the width of the vampire at his longest points shoulder to shoulder. However I have also would have used a slightly smaller like a 50 or 40. It’s a preference thing. Now Oliverio def plinths. So I’ll be using these in the future e Exclusively. Now there are also 25mmD by 30 mmLength. That one can use for single models of 28 mm scale and can also be used for those mini busts as well. He also offered plinths specifically for the busts which tend to have an angle where it drops off making aslioed size. Now preference wise I would not likely use this. As making the drilled hole on a slopes surface is not something ide feel easy to do. But as for the bases in general they are AMAZING , very heavy as Ali at like a wood but instead it’s high grade resin pvc grade almost. They are sooo well made and are really a genius design. I’m not sure how or what they are made from all I do know when I recieved it the weight and precision soled me immediately going forward. Hope this helps. If you need more explanation on what you want give me an idea of what you need it for the model or size of the models being used and we’ll figure it out together.
