HI all,
I haven't painted mini's since I was in College 20+ years ago My art career went elsewhere, I had forgotten how fun and satisfying these projects could be.
The models available now are amazing as well. I really loved this Cairn wraith from Games workshop, its design is creepy as hell being that its essentially a flying sheet with a skull.
I had done this for a locale Games workshop 'white' themes contest. while painting the robe white I could not resist the urge to flush out the design with some added muck and gore. I had envisioned the inner portion of the robes to be eternally soaked in blood and ooze. I imagined as it floated across the landscape it left a tell tail trail of spatter on the ground or along anything it brushed by. Felt creepy to me. It also helped bring a more natural overall feel to the piece. I do realize though that it sacrificed some of the eye pop drama that a higher contrast approach would have resulted in.
The base was heavily inspired by so many great pieces I see suspended this way on the site. I really loved the idea of showcasing some of the things interned under the graveyard.
The galleries here can suck you in for hours there is so much inspirational work. I'm also struck by the level of respect and graciousness this community has, unlike many forums where its all nasty backbiting. I got some help on my snow from member 10 ball after I had used games workshop snow flock and didn't like the 'hairy look it produced he turned me onto the backing soda and varnish approach, made a big difference. Next snow dio I will have this worked out.
Glad to be able to participate I hope you like the piece.
You can see its post here I'd appreciate any votes or comments you may have.
