Silent Hill: Abstract Daddy ** NOT SAFE FOR WORK **

Due to strong reactions across various forums I have decided to remove my posts in this thread. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to any of the 184 people to have viewed this thread who may have been offended by the subject matter. It was certainly not my intention to offend and this sculpt was produced soley out of my love for the Silent Hill 2 video game.

Similarly I would also like to offer my apologies to anybody who was reading this thread out of genuine interest. The thread title and disclaimer at the start should have been enough of a deterrent for anybody who may have been uncertain of the content.

I do not want my posts, or indeed my sculpting work, to be the source of any negativity. For now this piece is one that will continue behind closed doors. As for this thread, I would rather put it behind me :)

Thanks for reading.

That...figure...confuses me greatly. It's a johnson trapped in a picture frame that mutated some legs and arms? I can't imagine any back story can have that thing make sense. Got a link to the story? I'm sorry, I can't bring myself to comment on a sculpted shlong. ")

There is definitely some crazed stuff going on in the silent hill stories. I have a rather macabre interest in where this is going!

it's not your fault, chief :) Personally, I'd love to have some silent hill minis. I loved the games, and think the designs are, while freaky, really effective at creating a unique atmosphere. And, as you say, it's not like you didn't warn people with the thread title. Keep up the good work, and don't let folks criticisms get you down. :)

@Quietimanes - the sculpt was (rather accurately) based off a beastie from a video game called Silent Hill 2. There are a few Silent Hill games, all of which involve a regular Joe typey protagonist getting stranded in the eerily quiet (and often foggy) town of Silent Hill. Therein he goes barmy and has all sorts of nasty personal history dredged up and shoved in his face in the form of wierdy (often quasi-sexual) daemonic beasties. The games (especially the 4th one) left me feeling rather grubby after playing them, but this just goes to show how well designed they are. The music is aces, too. There's a movie, which is OK and probly worth a watch, if you can't be bothered hunting down the games to play them all. :)

It's a shame, really. People will let the wet nurse stand, but get upset about your mini? Keep your chin up, do what you like, and the rest can take a hike.

I agree with TrystanGST here, ignore and carry on dude. Personally I really like the work of Bacon, Steadman, Sutherland, Rainer etc... etc... etc... and I do like the Art of Silent Hill. Shame some people make you feel you can't talk about your work.

People will let Alien stand, but get upset at HR Giger...

Thanks, yeah, I understood that much. I was just curious how this particular beastie was "formed"...his individual story. Because the end result is so...odd.

For the record, I didn't mean to come across negative, I was merely curious. I'd hope moonmin82 reconsiders and continues to post up progress pics.

The most admired female figures we see here (and every other mini forum) every day are far more offensive and harmful to young viewers in my opinion.

OK, so it looks a bit disturbing. Why the vitriol? There's so much more other disturbing, offensive material on the web. It's hardly more offensive than that painting of Jacob Zuma that got defaced.

I've never really been into the Silent Hill thing, but this has perked my interest. Might have to look into it a bit more now.

Aw man, a shame you removed that.....i was looking forward to seeing where that was going. I urge you to finish the sculp, if for nothing more than your own satisfaction! Keep the models coming!

I'll certainly continue this sculpt and may post some (possibly censored...) photos of the finished piece at a later date!

I think I can show this WIP shot without causing offence:

Abstract04-Jun-2012.jpg

I've trimmed the 'table' at the front and back. Reference pic's showed mine to be a little too long. Plus, the length of the 'neck' was making it look more obviously grotesque than necessary. Legs and arms sculpted since I last posted (for those of you who saw the original WIP shots).

It's looking much better than the previous pics you showed. I think at the moment though it's still a tad too abstract, if you'll pardon the word choice. What I mean is, in the game (and specifically in that reference pic on the wiki) it's more clearly a heavily muscled figure embedded in a bed/frame. I think the legs are fine as-is, but the shoulder area/head needs to be worked on to define it more clearly as what it is. I've always found it a bit tricky to see the second (female) figure in the abstract daddy, but I must confess that when I was playing the game I was far more concerned with clubbing it round the head before it killed me than reasoning out its metaphorical nature. Still, if you want to go for as close a match as possible, that'd be something to think about as well. It'll be tricky to keep the body parts clearly belonging to two separate people/things, while keeping the overall stretchy skin effect. Nonetheless, I reckon you're on the right track - keep at it :D

ta for the robbie suggestion, btw, but sadly I'm currently on a self imposed no-mini-shopping penance, for (again, self inflicted) binging on ebay recently. I'm also supposed to be saving up to buy a house. So, no fun stuff for me for the foreseeable future. On the plus side, I may actually start to make gains on my pile o unpainted minis. Here's hoping...

Agreed. Trying to refine the human form above the table is proving tricky but I'm working on it! As for the second figure, that's a tough one. The concept art (and the Hell Painter sculpt) and even the in game cut scenes seem to represent a single figure and only the actual in game monster model has that second figure. It's really hard to make out the shapes!

Glad you think it's coming along well :)
