Silent Hill

Just saw Silent Hill last night. Quite possibly one of the most disturbing movies I\'ve seen. Freaked me out. Not scary (in my opinion), but just disturbing. I like horror type movies, and they don\'t usually get me like that but this one did. I\'m having a hard time saying whether it was good or not when people ask me. If you look strictly at the movie itself it was quite good, but when I think about how disturbing parts of it were I don\'t know if I can still say its a good movie. I guess it really depends on whether you like being freaked out/disturbed like that. It did a better job of sticking to the game than Resident Evil did, so that was good. I\'m just rambling now, so I\'ll get to the point: Anyone else seen it? Any comments? I\'d really like to hear what others have to say.

I\'m looking forward to seeing it. Makes me want to break out Silent Hill 2 again.. it\'s still my favorite in the series, even though I know a lot of people don\'t like it much.

Yeah, I don\'t remember much of Silent Hill 2, I think I only played a demo or rented it or something... Then again I don\'t remember much about any of the Silent Hill games lol. Which one was Silent Hill 2, the one where your wife is dead and you get the letter saying she\'s in Silent Hill?

why? its a classic \"open ended\" horror movie cleshe.

i saw it, and i thought your review was a decent one. i didn\'t find it toO graphic (\'cept for that bit at the end :D), but it was definately disturbing (in a good way). i have never played the games, how close was it?

Yeah, two was where you get the letter from your dead wife. And I really liked the radio that would buzz static if things started approaching you. And there was so much fog, you could never tell the direction. Man, there was a moment in the sewers in that game where your flashlight battery dies. And you know exactly what\'s gonna happen as soon as you popped in a new one....

IF YOU HAVEN\'T SEEN IT AND PLAN ON SEEING IT DON\'T READ THIS AS IT COULD SPOIL PARTS OF THE PLOT

What my friends and I figured was that they died right at the beginning in the car crash, the only way for them to get into the Silent Hill that the \'darkness\' was in was for them to die (everyone else in there was already dead, so it makes sense). Thats why at the end the house was empty to them, they were just spirits still in a spirit world. I hope that made sense it\'s kind of hard to explain.

I thought the part where the monster rips the skin off the girl and throws her at the church door was pretty graphic, that was one of the more disturbing parts. The end was pretty graphic, but I didn\'t find it that disturbing. By far one of the creepiest parts for me was when the mother was in the bathroom in the school when the \'darkness\' takes over and the janitor guy starts pulling himself out of the stall towards her.

As for how close it was to the game, I don\'t remember if it followed any of the games plot lines specifically (I only played 1 and 2), but in general I found the overall mood and feeling to be closer the games, where as with the Resident Evil movie the games had quite a different feel to them.

I\'m conflicted. The gamer in me demands that I go and see Silent Hill. The historian and legend nut demands I see Tristan and Isuelt. I CANNOT CHOOSE!!! ???

And someone on IMDB said they liked Tristan and Isuelt better when it was called Romeo and Juliet. I weep for the children...

It\'s getting absolutely pounded by the critics! But then so was Hudson Hawk and I love that movie.
I will wait for the DVD (I am very choosy when it comes to handing over my cash at the movies).

I saw it the other night and thought it was pretty damn cool. I thought that the part where the womans skin got ripped off was the most \"metal\" movie moment I\'ve seen in ages. Pretty awesome! Also thought the guys huge sword was close to the scale that we are used to seeing on minis. I\'d see it again even if the acting was bad and they tried to over - explain things that didn\'t need to make sense in the first place. The atmosphere was great!

I saw it last night and I think this is without a doubt the worse movie I have seen in the last 5 years. the camera work sucked, the acting sucked even worse, and I won\'t even begin to talk about the so called storyline. Even the parts that had potential, for example the deserted town with ashes raining down, were completely ignored by the director and not a single nice camera shot was shown.

*spoilers*
the horror parts were not even remotely creepy, and way too vague to be convincing. the part in the bathroom where the janitor is tied to the toilet with razor wire, which should be pretty creepy, is not even shocking. For fucks sake director, just SHOW the bloody thing instead of stroking it with your cameras. You have a nicely setup, balanced scene working towards a climax and you ruin it by delaying the horror part way too long. After that the guy is crawling over the floor with his feet tied to his head, which is pretty cool / creepy, and then someone decided that they should ruin the entire thing with crappy computer effects, making the entire scene a total laugh.

You can see it\'s a computer game adaptation, the different enemies / locations / chapters / clues are all very obvious, and while this might be nice for fans of the game, it doesn\'t really speak for the movie\'s quality. Every time the location / scene gives an opening to develop the story a little bit, all goes black and all scary monsters are gone.

*end spoilers*

the movie sucks total ass, and anyone who disagrees doesn\'t know anything about good movies. It would be the same as discussing the musical quality of Crazy Frog or Britney Spears

If you want to see a good movie these days, go and watch brokeback mountain or the new world, those rock.

So if we were playing Call of Cthulhu you would have lost at least 10 SAN points. Right? lol

I am definitely looking forward to this movie now.

Something like that lol. Never played Call of Cthulhu, looked through the rules once or twice though ;). I barely got a chance to play DnD I figured it would be even rarer to get a chance to play CoC. Looked pretty interesting though.

I agree with Dr. Evilmonki; I just wait for DVD\'s now. My wife and I paint while the DVD plays. I just can\'t pay movie theater prices to see another redux or sequel. Will Hollywood ever come up with a new idea? I don\'t play any video games; but I find it a little irritating that so many movies are made from video games now.

I find it more irritating that all the horror movies people raved about being so ingenious and refreshing were just rehashed versions of old Japanese horror films, and most of them weren\'t nearly as good. You do have a good point though, alot of the movies that come from games aren\'t usually that great either.

no one said it was *good*, as in well made. it was entertaining. i know plenty about good movies, and i find your smugness to be unpleasant - who the f**k made you king of tinsle town?

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all stink. Personally i will NEVER watch brookback Mountain. I have no desire to see a love movie about two gay cowboys. If i wanted to see that i would just go to downtown phoenix and watch two real gay cowboys in love. I also have no intention of seeing Silent Hill int he movies, on DVD hell yes. Call me cheap but at almost $9 a ticket the movie has to be something that just grabs my interest completly.

Have to agree with you there funnymouth. Sound like an arrogant toss really but that may be a bit harsh - he may just be stirring (I love telling my mates that if I wanted to watch gay midgets I would hire some German porn NOT watch Lord of the Rings). And I can actually find musical merit in crazy frog and britany spears dispite disliking both of them completely
