you can call me arrogant but I still haven\'t heard any intelligent commenting on my post. I knew mentioning brokeback mountain was risky because it\'s very easy to crap about a gay cowboy movie. I should have known better. But if you would read the post and see that I also talked about crap camerawork, crap storyline and crap actors, you\'d see that my post isn\'t that arrogant, but pretty accurate. I still stand by my review of this movie, it sucks and it\'s pretty sad to see that people actually enjoy this kind of nonsense. Also, because people actually go watch this garbage ( luckily I watched it for free because I won an avant - première ) prodcuers will think that they need to make more of these. seriously, go read a book, watch a play, but don\'t go see this movie.

wait, your post is both accurate and arrogant. You must remember that this is YOUR opinion and personal taste and you can\'t discard other people opinions just because you don\'t like it and the way it\'s directed. Let the people judge it themselves, and don\'t be so harsh.

Personal Taste, remember, not a very complex concept. ;)

@Mordred - your review of the movie from a technical point of view is probably very accurate. The arrogant part comes in when you insist that anyone who doesn\'t agree with you is stupid. That\'s pretty much the definition of arrogant.

American Heritage dictionary:
ar·ro·gant adj.

1. Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance.
2. Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one\'s superiority toward others:

lol lol lol too funny.

im just of the opinion (do you smell something?) that not everything on film needs to be well written, well produced, well shot, or well... whatever to be fun (and enjoyable). the same applies to just about everything else - some of my favorite minis are technical travesties. i certainly hope you dont have that same attitude when voting, because you are going to miss out on some original works.

there are 2 types of film, critically acclaimed films, and crap, entertaining films. personally i like both.

Mordred, if you want truly awful films, watch anything directed by Uwe Boll.

Silent Hill couldn\'t possibly be worse than Alone in the Dark or House of the Dead.

I have no beef against movies that are poorly or cheaply made; yet entertaining. I personally would rather wait for the DVD\'s on most as I am usually not approved for the loan required at the ticket booth and concession stand. Me+Wife+3Sons=$75 bucks!
A bad movie makes the cost even more egregious.

Ever seen resident evil?

the camera work sucked, the acting sucked even worse, and I won\'t even begin to talk about the so called storyline.

The fact that it had one?

Even the parts that had potential, for example the deserted town with ashes raining down, were completely ignored by the director and not a single nice camera shot was shown.

Your point of view, I liked seeing the long shot from the church myself...

*spoilers*
the horror parts were not even remotely creepy, and way too vague to be convincing. the part in the bathroom where the janitor is tied to the toilet with razor wire, which should be pretty creepy, is not even shocking. For fucks sake director, just SHOW the bloody thing instead of stroking it with your cameras. You have a nicely setup, balanced scene working towards a climax and you ruin it by delaying the horror part way too long.

Suspense? Plus for the people who have played the games, this was a style used in the cut scenes

After that the guy is crawling over the floor with his feet tied to his head, which is pretty cool / creepy, and then someone decided that they should ruin the entire thing with crappy computer effects, making the entire scene a total laugh.

Seem to have missed a bit - which crappy effect was that?

You can see it\'s a computer game adaptation, the different enemies / locations / chapters / clues are all very obvious, and while this might be nice for fans of the game, it doesn\'t really speak for the movie\'s quality. Every time the location / scene gives an opening to develop the story a little bit, all goes black and all scary monsters are gone.

The film does what the game does - hop through different realities

*end spoilers*

the movie sucks total ass, and anyone who disagrees doesn\'t know anything about good movies.

Bollocks. Not every good film is made with a top budget, or with an intention to be higher art or to be deep and meaningful at every step. If a film can make you think, or have an opinion (of any kind) then it obviously makes an impression and has worked at some level.

It would be the same as discussing the musical quality of Crazy Frog or Britney Spears

Some people like both of those, they are another form of artistic expression, just not to your taste.

If you want to see a good movie these days, go and watch brokeback mountain or the new world, those rock.

Never seen either of these (and never heard of new world). I might think they are complete rubbish, not rock :D

Yes I enjoyed this film.

Yes I have played the games.

No, I\'m not a fanboy (or girl in my case), but did want to stand up for a film that I honestly don\'t think was crappy as you described (but of course you are entitled to your opinion, just as I am to mine)

I should appologize on the crack about Brokeback Mountain but i\'m not. I have no issues with the movie because it\'s gay cowboys, it\'s just not a movie i would enjoy watching. So saying that if i want to see a good mopvie i should see that sounded arrogant to me, i don\'t like being told what i will like and what i won\'t like. For gods sake it\'s a movie based on a video game, i expect the thing to suck. After all look at all of the other video game based movies, they have the habit of being worth the price of a movie rental at best. I\'m sorry you didn\'t like it but look at the bright side, by your own admission you didn\'t have to pay for it.

Bad Good movie: Titanic. Technically extremely good but actually not entertaining.

Good Bad movie: Poseidon Adventure. It sucks but it\'s good to watch.

Those are two examples. Maybe Silent Hill is one of the latter; I don\'t know. I\'m 13 and wouldn\'t be allowed to watch it anyway! lol

I thought maybe Rosac was off on another threadromantic spree...

I\'m surprised you remembered this thread Vike. I still haven\'t watched it since, I\'ve recommended it on occasion when people where looking for \"scary\" movies... I still can\'t say whether I liked it or not... I think the story was not bad, and the special effects and the camera work wasnt all that bad either...

Was there anything in particular that makes you unsure?

I\'m doomed with the curse that makes me remember all threads....LOL

Well...I\'m not sure what I did or didn\'t like about it....I guess the monsters were memorable enough, that triangle head dude was very cool. I didn\'t quite understand the point of the \'other\' humans that lived there....why did they go out in that world as opposed to just staying in the church?

I\'d say it was bad.

The bit where Pyramid Head tears off the annoying bint\'s skin bit was kinda cool though.

Well, after scrolling past the gobs of arguments on opinion..

I saw it in the theater and was squirming in my seat and death-gripping my own legs throughout most of it. I think they nailed the feeling of the game where the innocent, lost person is drawn from the real world into the hellish one.

It definately got too crazy towards the climax, but I did like the ending back at their home.

Annoying bint gets skin ripped off? Guy with pyramid cheese grater for head? Janitor trussed to a toilet with razor wire? I kinda want to see this movie now :D
