ahaha thanks! and thanks to all those people giving tips, doing videos etc... I spent more time looking at pple paint than painting, but it helps so much. If only I could find that first Citadel Horse I painted back in 1989... that would be a major improvement :p

Had a bit more time to progress this weekend and had a major paint issue! I have Vallejo paints, and I was trying to get a tiny drop of red to finish some highlights on the cloth. Nothing was coming out so I pressed a little harder and BAM a huge load of paint just squeezed out of the bottle and ended up covering half of the Ogroid's right side! I quickly ran over to the kitchen to run water over it and was able to remove 90% of the paint, but some was left. I thus has to fix what I could with new base color and highlights... after that I tried to do a purple flame from the skull, but that didn't look so good so back to white and waiting for GWs to deliver my Nihilak whatever paint to finish it off.

Also started working on the eye and mouth details. Will try to finish this guy this week as I only get 10 minutes a night during the week and max 1hr on weekends.

Hi guys, quick feedback needed for the skin on my Acolytes.

I am aiming only for a table top quality (don't think I can paint any better anyways).

What do you think of this guy? Its just a flesh base, some highlights and a flesh wash.

Decent enough?

I only have 1-2hr per week to paint now so its hard to make progress and up my skills, so my standards are being lowered, and I am fine with it :) Just want to get my Silver Tower set painted.

Looks good for tabletop standard Alex. I’d recommend just spending a tiny bit longer putting some line highlights down with some light flesh colour just to up the contrast a little more.

Good work though

Hi, back into paiting with a bit more stuff :)

This weekend I spent most of my time trying to do wet blends. Not very successful, especially on the Gaunt Summoner. My main issue was that I did not put a base coat of blue first on the robe to let it dry and then work on the wet blend over it. What I did was using a retarder, doing all the wet blends on the white primer, which ended in up disaster. When I was doing the wet blends and pulling the paints, all the white beneath the paints were showing up at the blending spots. I think for the next time I will have a base coat, fully dry and then redo coats for the wet blends.

Anyways, let me know what are your tips for cool blending :)

Starting with the easiest, Jabba.

Next, Bantha, used wet blending mostly on the fur.

Finally, the Gaunt Summoner. Spent like 2 hours on the robe alone. Feels like it wasn't worth the time spent and I could have done a simple basecoast and drybrush it for similar results... :(

Hey don't be so harsh on yourself alexz3, your doing really well i think. Your blends are pretty decent, the only tip i would suggest is to literally keep practicing.
And also remember that if you think you can see the transitions between your blends too much you can glaze over then edge between them with very thin paint (i normally use the darker shade over the lighter). It'll soften the harsh line you may have and the it together more.

I was going to say the robe looks pretty nice. There are different ways to get smoother transitions, but glazing as Sigmar suggests might be an easy ine to try.

Also, depending on your goal keep an eye out for mini prep. I find the mold lines on Jabba to be distracting from the nice paintjob.

Hi,

1. Try to mix the colors more. Jabba is fine, but on the back of the Summoner a mix of 3:1, 1:1 and 1:3 of the colors in the middle would help.
2. As Sigmar said, try glazing. Dilute the paint, remove the excess paint from the brush on a paper towel, so the brush remains damp (not wet!) and paint over the colors. Darkening is easier than lightening, especially as the lighter colors tend to be chalky.
3. Try stippling! Spend 1-2 nights on trying stippling. Use it on some organic part, like cloth or leather. Easy, quite fast, gives a nice texture, and the best painters (e.g. Bailey03) are using it. Just spread some random dots over the border, more closer to the border, less farther away, and the dots you do not like can be split in two or covered with the other colors.

Edit: +1: A nice Tzeentch logo would help on the back, too. As you did not use much color on the black, it should be easy to fix any mistakes you make. As you can paint the text in the codex, you should be able to paint a logo, too.

Cool, I appreciate the constructive feedback :)

I will get back to the Summoner this weekend.

I practiced glazing and stippling on Obi Wan. No washes were used here. The pics aren't great, as normally his hair is more like yellowish-white, like real old people hair :)

The robe looks really cool, perfect candidate for stippling!

Some more thoughts:

1. Remove the mold lines! You are now a good enough painter to not let them ruin your work.
2. for OSL, it is not enough to glaze the robe over with blue, as it darkens the robe highlight. Add some white to the glaze and highlight the edges again.
3. You can try to use some fluo colors on the lightsabre.

I have a real issue with mold lines. I can't see them until I paint over them. I try to go over them before priming, but miss like 50% of them. Any technique to see them easily?

I'll push the OSL with lighter tones and push the fluo look of the saber as well.

thanks!
