Six Nations Rugby 2008 - thump your tub!

The Scotland v England game was awful as a game of rugby. Possibly the worse game that I\'ve seen.... utter tripe. Fairplay to the Scots for the win though I suppose.... still a shite game though.

Oh... Wargriffon, ping pong requires two sides to make it so. Scotland were just as dismal.

Lads, it\'s very straightforward. Point difference is 38. For every point France beat us by (which they won\'t - and that\'s my bold prediction out of the way) it counts as two points as they are simultaneously taking a point off ours and bolstering their own:

Wales +65

France +27

If France win by one point, our PD becomes +64, France\'s +28. If they win by 10, our PD would be +55, France\'s +37. If they beat us by 19, PD would be +46 Wales, +46 France. It\'s like double jeopardy. France winning by 20 would leave Wales +45, France+47. By beating us by 20 they are reducing our PD and increasing their own to a point where they pip us by the narrowest of margins to the championship. If they win by 19, we share the championship.

Is this beginning to make sense? It\'s extremely simple but it\'s one of those things that takes a bit of expanded thinking. If Wales and France were playing OTHER teams this weekend coming, then it would be that France would have to score lots, closer to that 38 mark, for them to win (if Wales lost).

I had a mare trying to explain this to two regulars in the local yesterday, but when they saw the simplicity of it their faces lit up and the scales did fall from their eyes!

Well the game I watched between Scotland and England both sides had there share of kicks to each other hence the aerial ping pong game.

As for being a sourpuss no not at all I really couldn\'t give a damn about records at teh end of the day I want to see a good game of rugby and each time I watch a game that involves England I end up picking up my book to read or falling asleep there game has become so predicable pass the ball to Jonny so he can kick it because he has no other imagination for the game and can\'t remember how to invent and make moves for his other team mates.

At the end of the day there is 15 players in a game of Rugby and not just Jonny.

I was going to endeavour to explain it but Rev\'s nailed it and saved me the bother. I\'d only add France can win by scoring 19 points more than Wales if they score more tries (currently tied on 11 each)... but that\'s not going to happen now is it?... I mean, a nation expects

Well, that\'s what I said... I was pointing it out as you seemed to be suggesting that the ping-pong rubbish was only being played by England - which would be impossible lol.

England have totally sucked this time round... but their victory against the French was the best rugby match of the 6 Nations in my opinion.... hardly a kicking-fest by Jonny (you probably missed that one).

I only watched the first half of the Ireland v Wales game and it wasn\'t particularly exciting stuff either... very similar to England v Scotland. I read a book during the second half

I think the Welsh can beat France and probably will, they\'ve had a good run so far.

I just really, really can\'t bring myself to cheer them on though, so COME ON FRANCE! :twisted:

Personally I don\'t really care, I have always gone to a match to watch a game of rugby and who is playing is irrelevant, if it is a good game on many an occassion I have shouted for both sides and clapped when they have scored despite them being the opposition.

I think a lot of that has long since disappeared from the sport now which is a shame as it was part of the fun of going to watch.

but i just cant resist winding up a few english friends when they used to wind me up SO MUCH when wales didnt do so well.

Obviously whilst watching matches i support wales more but yes i do like to see a good game of rugby and i cheer for both sides when they do well.

I seem to remember on the way to a rugby match in cardiff, the Australian bus with all the players in drove through the crowd. EVERYONE stood back and cheered and clapped. Im sorry to say this but in other sports that bus would have got seriously smashed up by hooligans.


Thats why i still like rugby. its full of REAL sportsmanship.

Welsh team has just been announced on the news.

Jones is out and on the bench and Hook is in for the Stand Off position, although Gatland has said that Jones will come on at some stage. Jones is said to be gutted about this but I think I can see Gatland\'s thinking as they are both good players and both have their own take on the game so either have the ability to change/turn a game around and it all depends on the type of game that they intend to play.

The other change is in the 2nd Row and Gough is back in with the #4 jersey.

I don\'t think there were any other changes

The French announced 6 changes yesterday including removing one of their try scorers so it should be an interesting game.

Nah, Gough was in last time as well. It was Wyn-Jones who came in for Ian Evans last time. The other change was Huw Bennett for M Rees in the front row. I like the team selection once again. The nerves will start on Thursday evening I reckon. I\'m dreading it and looking forward to it at the same time. No hiding place now - Grand Slam or nowt. The Championship alone would be a bit rubbish in defeat.

And as for you young Beelzebrush, that\'s the last time I support your boys in World Cup finals! Twice I did it, twice I say! Well, let me tell you my boy, next time I\'ll support the other team

Yep I realised that when I watched the news this evening Gough was mentioned lunch time because he gets his 50th cap for Wales this weekend.

Edit: Not sure about Thursday nerves, I am up at GW HQ all weekend for teh Euro GT so I think Saturday afternoon is going to see me back and forth from the games hall to Bugmans and the big screen in there, that or an excuse to keep refilling my Guinness glass
