well its officaly 6/6/06 and heres how i feel.. i have heard MANY people commenting about the date and what not. o its the end and all that joking around. however. i have only heard one person comment about what today REALLY is. and that is what saddens me. for those of you who have forgotten or do not know. today is the anniversary of operation overlord, also known as D-Day. i dont know what else to say other then. have we forgotten the past?

Excellent point. I can\'t belive with all the \'crap\' I heard on the radio today that it wasn\'t even mentioned.

That was a brutal day in history. The opening of Saving Private Ryan is about as graffic as it could get, but some of the old vets said it was really much worse.

As a former Army Ranger this day always puts me in mind of the sacrifice of Rangers at Point Du Hoc. Long live the memory of the valiant.

I am proud to be a Canadian today, moreso than usual. At Juno Beach, people seem to forget the only troops who held their ground were the Canadians. But we have to remember who died for a better future, our future. Be they American, Canadian, or any other nations. God bless Canada, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and all the other nations envolved in the Alliance.

Not to detract from the heroic events of D-Day, but I really don\'t understand what all the fuss is for Non Swedes to make such a deal out of Swedish Flag day. :D

I never had relations in the war (family is in India) however, my grandfather was able to get some jews out of germany (he travelled everywhere and had friends in Indian gov\'t, etc) before the worse happened. We have photos of him with german soldiers in a gas mask. Family said we had a letter from some consulate due to him helping a few people to get out (israel? not sure which consulate), but we\'ve lost it :(

And yes, radio went into all this crap about the reason behind 666 in the bible, etc...although it\'s just some number that the writers of the bible chose. No real known significance...

However D-Day, yes lets never forget what took place on that real day.

Not so! I haven\'t forgotten, D-Day would have failed miserable had it not been for the grand alliance. Every country played its part, and it was that unity that led to the success.

Modern differences aside, our countries are still bound to each other in brotherhood.

As for D-Day, I used to do WWII reinacting with a couple of guys who went ashore at Normandy.

After that, I figure they got a free pass for the rest of life.
