Skeletor

I said I was going to post something, but I've been so busy I have completely forgotten about it. On top of that painting a whole HeroQuest game has made me so sick of painting that I will have to take a break for a while after this. I have two more minis that are to be ready wednesday. Then I'm gonna do something else for a while until the passion for painting returns to me. The latest stuff I've been doing are female heroes for my old HeroQuest game. Here's the elf (conversion) and dwarf. Yeah, I'm aware of their shortcomings (like the elf being in need of some freehand to make it more interesting) so I'm not posting them on the site (they're both rushwork and like I said I'm fed up with painting and I'm just trying to get this over with for now). Only here. And considering my skeletor mini recieved approximately 4.5 while most other HeroQuest minis posted here get between 6 and 7 I guess I really need to up my game before I post anything if I am to retain any sort of self esteem.

Anywho.. I'll be back when I have something of higher quality to show.

The other skeletor-mini I linked above is definately more detailed. Take a look at the feet for example. Mine almost sinks into the base while the other has steel-toed boots. My mini is cast with the base as one piece. I suspect the other is not, but rather had to be mounted in the base. I should take a picture of some of the other minis from the Swedish version of the HQ box to show you the lack of detail compared to other minis.

For the record, the Swedes were not short-changed when it comes to HQ minis. The ones here are exactly the same. I converted my Skeletor by sawing him off the attached HQ base and beefing his feet up considerably both in thickness and detail (the steel toes). I then added all the cork and the skull to the original base so he'd stand a little taller. I'm glad you like him, he is one of my favorites :D

As for your painting, you've received some excellent advice already so I'll leave it at that. The two female heroes you've just posted are quite good and you obviously can paint :) Don't worry about CMON ratings and your self esteem. People are super picky here.

I really don't mind critisism. I guess I just didn't want it in relation to that mini (no idea why I asked for it). I just wanted to share what I thought was an original idea (naive I know) so that others of my generation could reminisce.

Either way, I'll get back and post something on the site once I have something of a little higher quality, and once I've built a light box and found my real camera.

On a side note I have seen more detailed (unpainted) HeroQuest minis around on ebay and such (I think they're from the North American version of the game, but I'm not sure). The bases look slightly different and details are much sharper so there are definately differences.

Just to round it up, here are the last two female heroes for my HeroQuest:

The warrior is actually a little lighter than the photo lets off. I'm considering making her a little lighter still, but at the same time I kinda like how she turned out.

Toodles.
