It looks really good, I'd suggest you to use very subtle blue tones to shade the shield, also maybe a dark brown colour. You could use these colours very smoothly to shade it, the colour depends the effect you want to have.

Ha! That bust is about twice as big as I'd thought :) It's nice to get a chance to see your technique on a larger piece though. I wouldn't mind seeing some of the greens on the chest plate pulled up into the fungal growth on his head though.

There was a Judge Dredd storyline in 2000AD that featured a group of people afflicted by a horrific mushroom disease. Marvelously drawn in Carlos Ezquerra's inimitable style. Still makes my skin crawl thinking about it today! I wonder if DFB ever read those issues? This'll have to do as a less frightening page but gets the idea across...

...yes it is the original artwork, no it's not from my collection!

Fantastic progress mate and good luck with the scales......

Yep, I read that strip years ago, or saw it in the Judge Dredd RPG, I have seen the panel anyway. I have about three years worth of 2000AD in the loft boxed up and I kinda regret giving it up all those years ago. Whilst mushrooms may look cool in 2D, don't think it would have worked on this fella and I think it far more scary that there are people with awful tumours like Thuggorre for real. Here is the man who inspired it, it is worth waiting for the video advert to finish don't worry..... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1571360/Fighting-the-curse-of-the-face-eating-tumour.html

Hi DFB, I don't do too well with those kind of tumor pics. My brain likes to store them up specially in order to jolt me awake at 2am in a cold sweat & panic! The Ezquerra art is creepy enough for my tastes :)

Trying to do full shrooms on the bust would only work for reproduction if each one was supplied loose, then glues individually into little sockets on his head I suppose. Not really worth the effort when your bust neatly captures the effect without that tiresome requirement :good:

Cheers, B.

Now you have got me excited Skels. I have to do DIY today - have to appease mrs dfb, maybe some more sculpting/ "web design" later if I am a good dog.......

Breathtaking bust. The eyes are my favorite part, but the rest of him, too, excellent work :)

Won't like to meet him in a dark street... ;)

Great work, I'm sure you've done DFB proud. Eyes are definately my favorite as well. It actually looks like they follow you around (seem to be looking left in the straight on shot, but then looking right in the third pic). Only suggestion I have is that the area at the bottom of the shield seems really dark, when it would be a naturally highlighted spot. It could use a glint off the metal band or something similar. Then again, it could just be the pics "grumble, grumble."

That's a really good bust, the eyes are just breathtaking! Maybe you could highlight a very little bit the fur at the back to push a little more the contrast with the skin.

Fantastic and very characterful piece. I think you need some more light from the front when you take your photos though. Maybe try getting a very bright light and reflecting it off a piece of white plasticard? That seems to work well for me.

It looks like you need to take your highlights up higher, but I think it's just the photos that are making it look that way.

My fingers are firmly crossed :)

The pink & green swirls that have developed on the background material are presumably a result of post-processing? I can't remember what they're called, Miranda swirls? No, can't think of it.

I meant to ask, is this a commission piece for DFB for his webshop imagery or did you just fancy the model?

Looking good :good: when your photography doesn't reduce your work to a very flat mass of browns ;)

Cheers, B.

Yes, I am here. Just got back from a busy day at work, ready to kill someone now.......

Switching back into happy mode, I see the latest photos of Thuggorre show off (well at least the top one does!) what a great job Skels has done here for me!!! I look forward to seeing the final photos showing off all the hard work and then I'm gonna collate it all together and create a product flyer and advertise a bit. I am blown away by amazement (and jealously) of the painting skills shown here!! As a big lover of everyones WIP threads, I must say this one has a lot of cool stuff in, can't wait for whatever is coming next......

Sleipnir, hello mate, the url for the shop is http://dfbstudio.webs.com/apps/webstore/ it is the basic shop supplied by freewebs. I will be swapping it to a better store later down the line, I am sure this one will do the job for the minute. All the lovely graphics are done and are now at tweaking stage. I posted up the logo art on concept org for some of the graphic design guys to look at and it got hammered for being way too fanciful lol, so I am going to tweak a little bit. I am not sure if i have shown it here but the product label is this....

When Skels has done the final photo, I will swap out the resin shot of course. Must say I am looking forward to seeing some closeups of the skull and head........
