so, the nazgul is done. think i had it now, some relaxed days before i head to germany. i know some friends who paints 14h+ each day now, a killer :)
nothing amazing at all with this mini, but as said painted in a most relaxing way.

need something for the plinth. do the witchking have any symbol or something? have to google around..

here is another wip shot

had to cut off the right arm, as details there was beyond recognition. but that allowed me to hot up the pose just a little. on the crown i had to cut off all the spikes as they were f*cked, put needles there instead. handles of the mace and sword had to be replaced. after this shot i had to bulk up the right shoulder as the arm was a bit too short, and on the same time i added some clothing on the left shoulder. tons of airbubbles were taken care of. the mace head had to be partially rebuild as some spikes were missing. the king got a thumb and left foot as there were missing. think that was all. great shit indeed finecast!

Failcast failcrap whatever you call it certainly not finecast I suppose we should thank GW for making us improve our sculpting techniques lol. Fine paint job there matey.

Ghaffasa; hade la för mig att du var svensk, typ? :) kan ju säga att jag vet minst två som kommer vara bättre än min squad, så kamp om guld kommer det nog inte bli, mer kamp om brons. menmen :)

well i back from germany feeling a bit sour. no, i didnt win anything.
it feels ok to loose againt better stuff, but to loose against what i consider at least one level below painting in not an ok feeling. i have to adapt my style for gd more... or not!

still feel buttf*cked though, but ill come around.

Don't adapt to GD! The judging at GD is inconsistent at best. You try to change to what won this year, only to find next year the judges are all about something else. Keep doing what you're doing - as others pointed out, your #145 out of almost 10,000 here isn't an accident.

*edit* I only entered GD the one time, and was quite happy to come away with a finalist pin. After seeing what GD is becoming, at least here in the US, I don't think I'll be entering it anymore anyways. I'm looking forward to GenCon and Crystal Brush. I'll be up against some serious competition, but I'd rather lose to them than get shafted because of judges playing favorites.

Have To agree with Trystan Your style is far better than what GW pour out themselves. At a tournament they couldn't spot conversions and didn't even know there own product range !
Keep up the stellar work and don't get disheartned

Have to say, when I was just lurking your's was a thread I always Looked forward to seeing updated. You have a style that is full of personality and very distinctively your own. It completely rocks and if the judges can't see that then more fool them. Keep doing exactly what your doing

Hej Stefan! It was great seeing you again in Cologne and I can genuinely understand you...:)... Losing in an Event like a GD is not too easy since the System allows to look for mistakes, not for Benefits of the Miniatures... If you now invest dozens, hundreds of hours in a project it´s always a bummer not to be appreciated fully by not placing withing the Top 3... But be sure of the respect and appreciation your Work had within the other Painters... You did some amazing Projects (really enjoyed that Nurgle Toad of yours...)... So, learn from that experience as much as you can, remember not to let the good time meeting all the others be spoiled by not receiving a silly plastic Trophy or a Cheap China Sword and better luck next time... It´s all a test of your patience and endurance after all somehow... And mad / silly without limits...^-^... But if you keep on doing what you do and keep one or two things in mind (not necessarily to adapt to the GD Imagery / Language...), then you will eventually succeed in winning something...:)...

Heya skel - don't feel down about GD. Like others have said, your thread here is one of the few I check daily. You have a very distinct style and if the GD judges don't like it, then that just means you aren't ticking the GW management's boxes - it's in no way a criticism of your artistic ability. Sure, a demon would be nice, but truth be told, although it's a very well known contest, it's somewhat hamstrung by the sales-related corporate crap that's hung around its neck. (Not to disrespect those who won - there were some excellent entries again this year.)

Keep the chin up, and don't change your style unless YOU feel like a change. You're one of the world's top mini painters, and if you persevere you'll surely get the shinies to reflect that eventually :)

ah yeah matt...ill come around. the toad i say nothing about, he was rightfully outgunned by the amazing pieces there.
my hardest issue is with the contemptor. as ive spent hours and hours of painting that one, every blending is perfect, every skyline is well placed (id like not to say perfect there, as they well almost cannot be) and it get axed just because of the painting style to pieces i consider a one week tabletop piece (and yeah i had closer look). i kind of feel. and, as i thought especially german gd was open to different ways and ideas of painting, i AM disapointed. i dont know what to learn from that really, other than to keep in the box and dont do anything different to what everybody else do.

i do have issues with not place in squad also, but there i got my explenation at least, even if i dont agree.

still awesome to meet you guys again matt, you all rock my world :)

Don't sweat it man. In my experience, GD is more about politics than painting. It's not a real measure of skill - at least that's the way it feels in north America.

no problem folks, i come around. i dont wanna be the sour looser. and there are other competitions after all, so perhaps i can get a fair judgement somplace else. at squad, i lost just because of the sorcerer. if i have had another horror instead ive had at least silver. this was judges own words. guess i have to paint another horror and replace that guy. later...

oh well! not time to sweat, been preparing the next mini in line which is the historical guy. not expecting this to be finished within a month, so primary target is a swedish competition at the end of october. italian bishop warrior.


starting the banner... soon to be updated. a classic sort of ;)


guess that is greek in the book? have to find some other lettering
