GD not so much for this guy. but ive booked my flights to Duke of Bavaria so its a 100% to go now! :)

More work on JC, adding a small tint of warm yellow/brown from above and some cold dark blue for the shadows to create some atmospere, just a little though as i don't want it to reach fantasy levels. much back and forth but im starting to feel pretty happy with the guy. decided to keep him "clean" and not go full throttle Mel Gibson blood and gore.

This made me smile ^^
And I kind of agree to your statement, too much gore and it would completely spoil your work on this specific miniature.

When I was a child I found some religious icons a bit scary for being too dark and gore, now that I am a little bit more grown up, they just make my head roll and spit green mud all over the place.... LOL ;)

Happy to hear you're tearing up the competitions skel. In my opinion you have deserved every bit of it. A thought that crossed my mind though.. Why do we compete in art? Is this really a good idea? And then I was watching this documentary where they talked about the Easter Island, which incidentally is a good example of why competing in art is a bad idea. They had a sculpture contest (hence all the huge statues of heads) and they used up almost all the natural resources on the island for this which resulted in the island becoming ruined and now uninhabitable. Food for thought.

Another thought that crossed my mind is that you reached a wall in your development as a painter (even though I didn't think that possible at your level) and eventually you climbed that hurdle and suddenly the awards started to pour in again. It's kind of a natural development in all skills. At times you reach a plateau or wall and feel like nothing is going your way, that you're not developing anymore. And then all of a sudden *poof* you skyrocket.

hey folks not much painting here, did the arms of the horror but not much to show yet

anyone have any experiance with stripping resin? i bough some dettol as i heard that's THE stuff to use. just soak it for a few hours and toothbrush, eh?

sometimes, shit happens. lol. not devastated by this though! perhaps ill repaint it someday. no SENMM though! :D

My experience with stripping minis is that a vast number of different simple green type cleaners do the job. It really doesn't take that much thinking. Choose a degreaser, let sit for 2-24 hours and wipe off with brush of your choice. A no fuss job.

Oh noooo! Oh well. Like BloodFather says, Simple Green variants is the way to go, and it's less bad for your health as well. If you go to IN-EX, they have small bottles of "Dekorima Färglösare" specifically for "removing paint from miniatures". It's based on Simple Green.

I use Jotun Penselrens (penseltvätt) which I bought at Färgkällan in Aschebergsgatan here in Gbg. It's also not too bad for your health, a bit thicker and really effective.

Use either of those rather than Dettol imo.

feels my life starting to settle down and become normal after the shitty spring where my mom passed away fighting cancer for a year, leaving my whole family in a wreck.

Ah so that's what was wrong. I lost my mother to cancer a few years ago. Sorry for your loss. It's some rough sh't to have to go through.

Clearly, he has finally mastered Andy's just dip it method.

I thought that was my method... :(

Skel, your recent work has looked great. That 'icon' reminds me of tempera 2-d stuff in Greece and a lot of other European art. Gorgeous, amazing work.

we should meet up sometime! oh and by the way, jr loves the Lego he got from you, its basically lego 24/7 now. at least he wish. ;) so thanks again for that batch!

I am glad the lego is put to use.

Yes, I am currently completely cut off from any kind of painting or related hobby. All my stuff is packed up in the attic. It's starting to become difficult, but I really need to prioritize other things at the moment.

I would love to meet up again. We need to come up with something in that area. I am currently fairly flexible during daytime if you just want to grab a quick lunch fika for example. Just let me know. :)

Edit: About motivation, would you still paint miniatures if they were not competing against others, but rather just displayed like a painting is hung in a museum?

I look forward to getting back to the hobby, whenever that may be. Do you still have my number? Give me a call and we'll see if we can't at least fit a cup of tea into our respective schedules. :)

Hm.. I think I accidentally voted lower than I intended on the demonhost. Clicking radiobuttons on a smartphone is finicky..
