skin tone issues

let me apologize in advance if this happens to be a repost, i just didn\'t feel like looking through all 200+ pages to find a similar topic.

anyways...

i\'m new to miniature painting and have watched a couple tutorials (two miniature mentor as well as the hot lead dvd{s}) and i\'m still kind of foggy...

i\'m having trouble with flesh tones. particularly base coating. i never know where to start to get the desired result.

does anyone know of any tutorials (preferably with photos) that show how to achieve different skin tones?

allow me to be more specific. i\'m a big fan of undead-themed painting schemes, however, i don\'t like the typical \"green\" zombies.

and as for paints, i have the reaper master series set, as well as various citadel pots lying around.

Don\'t know the Reaper master serie well enough to give you a good starting point, but the GW foundation Charadon Granite is a good starter for many a \"differing\" skin tone.
It\'s a pale grey when used as a base and you can tone it with Glazes or Washes.

If you want something other than the Green Decaying Zombie look, use Purple to indicate Lividity on the back and a soft Yellow to show fatty deposits under the skin. Also think of a darker purple/grey for sunken areas like the eye sockets and cheeks.

add grey to skin tones to desaturate them, easiest way.
then add bits of blue into the recess to help the shadows appear even colder/darker.

once your used to this, learn colour theory and get a colour wheel.

and thanks for giving me that color. i don\'t have any of the foundation paints, but i might be able to find something similar.

are the foundation paints just watered down or something?

Foundation paints are very pigment heavy, meaning they give great coverage and are a god send to us army painter guys.

Listen to Dr and GenerulPoleaxe, they really know there poop.

But don\'t be afraid to make mistakes, and the best advice I can give is to post pics. You\'ll get some very great personalized advice particular to your current fig and your style.
