Ello ello.

I've posted on here a little, but never anything of my own. It is time to remedy that and start a WIP here.

I'm not the best painter in the world by any means, but hopefully with some practice and some feed back from some of the great painters within this community I'll be able to improve! My aim ideally would be to paint for a living, but like I said, I think I'm quite far off that level atm.

So, less typing more pictures!

Have exams atm - first one tomorrow! Yikes, so will get more pictures up once they're over.

Least I've finally got around to starting a WIP here hehe.

All the best and happy painting!

Start of my Death Company, 1st marine. I'm not quite sure how to give depth to his armor. Maybe shade it with some red glazes in the recesses?

What do you reckon, have I managed to achieve NMM Gold on the Shoulder guard trim? I used the auto tonne feature in PS as my lighting was far too dark when I took the photo, but as the picture is, is what it is like in the flesh.

Better than nmm i can do!

Edge highlight black with gray for table top quality, if you want more than that listen to trystan and some of the other fellas here.

Decided to cut off his Bolt Gun and replace it with a battle standard. Ignore the freehand cup / tear atm they were just doodles for possible images, although I think I'll just go with the company logo & a red border.

Here's the start of the banner: (taken with phone camera)

Please please please please please

DON'T EDGE HIGHLIGHT with grey.

Sorry, I can't help myself. Nothing against what master said, I just can't stand that method of "shading" black.

IF done properly, it looks O.K.
If you don't do it right, UGH.

Carry on.

Check out the recent Dark Eldar releases for lots of black highlighted with either green or purple. I assume there'll be a tutorial up on the GW website somewhere. I most recently used a dark green (P3 Coal Black) on a black horse and am happy enough with the result for TT.

Cheers, B.

Yeah I think you captured it well! Don't ask me how to highlight black though as I can't do it :)

Might take a better picture later once more work is done to it, but you get the general pose from this.

Looks like a very dynamic flag wave going on there, nice job. The nomnomnom gold does its job nicely as well, hurrah!

GW Zombie that I was doing for fun is now done - just tidied up bits and added some gore, as all Zombies ought to have gore on them somewhere! Photo's not done in a light tent but you get the gist :D

Heya Mattdus,

Glad you like the effect, it's done by mixing Tamiya Clear Red with UHU glue, then manipulating it whilst it is still wet. Then go back and shade it with other reds and glaze a few more layers of Clear ontop of the bits you want to blend it into.

All the best,
Axel.
