Happy, that I ve found some time to paint I found myself in a big disaster...

:doctor: Now I really need some help / advicde!

After adding another layer of the basecoat to get a smooth blending I ve started with the highlights slowly. Here you can see my mixed palett:

WIP2arbpalette.jpg

I ve made evrything like several times before: Carefully mix the colour with somedrops of water until it`s milky, then applying layer after layer to the mini. But all I could have seen was a chalky white mix on the mini.

Coul someone give me a hint what has caused this?

Here`s the horror-result:

Do I have to restart completely or is there any way to paint it "over" without loosing details?

i think the white u use isn't creating a mix. Like oil and water don't mix if the white doesn't mix you get chalky white lines.
Don't know if this is the case but wouldn't have any other idea what might cause this.
Also don't know if you have to start over or not.

hope i helped...

Good luck on the mini!!

Time for an update...! Sorry for the big delays, but my son and my work keeping me buisy all the time, so the progress is very slow!

I ve deceided that both, Xargax and the priest could take a bath in acetone. So they are cleaned now. I ll work on those later.

Currently I am working on one of the sculpts with a highest emotion-factor I ve ever seen: Barney, the steamthing!

Just primed so far. Thinking about a colourscheme now. Any ideas?

I ve invested some money for GW Skull White and a couple of GW washes (Black, Sepia, and the muddy one). first real Inks for me :)

And here`s the reason for all the delays I have:

Good taste, eh?

I'd paint that guy with dark tones, leather for his head and probably a desatured red for some of the other parts.

i belive you are wrong sir, barney in not the sculpt with a highest emotion-factor, anton is! ;) you know if you let him watch those movies he's going to turn out like.... me! :D

but like cheelfy i think dark colours is best choice, with lots of contrast to enhance the atmosphere. maybe som OSL from the flower-thing?

Oh well, Anton is not a sculpt, he`s made with love... ;)

Never tried OSL - I wouldn`t do any experiment on Barney, but I like the idea.

atm I am heading for a dark red/green scheme, is a nice contrast on it. Let`s see what I can do of it. This evening is paintingtime :)

That Barney looks fun. Good opportunity for high contrast brown leathers, and bronzes on the more prominent metal areas with the bulk of it in gunmetal. Red and green work as groovy colours amongst that. Like Tennant's Tardis. :)

Hey mates, thanks for the coloured advices :)

I ve got some time for a more or less long paintsession this weekend. Just applied the basecoat of his clothes (it`s a dark, "pale" green with a light brown tone inside) and also a first layer of the leather for his head. I thopught it would make things easier to apply some absecoats first before investing a lot of time in shading and highlighting to see if those colours could do that job.

No pictures by now... will follor when basecoats are done.

btw... i had to remve his arms and hair because there are some areas i wasn`t able to reach as goog as i d thouight before glueing those parts together. Everything went fine here.

Time for some coloured pictures.

As mentioned above I ve started with some basecoats, nothing else. The red on his armor is just the first layer and will be more intense then now.

C&C are welcomed.

who makes that bust?

Barney was sculpted by "theSmall", you can find the sculpt here: http://coolminiornot.com/232443

I hope i could manage to finish this paintjob before december. I ll move over to a new home then. There`s a lot of work to do in the new apartement, so I won`t be able to paint a lot then.

Any thoughts about the current colourscheme? seems to me, like the dark green and the red would fit together perfectly :)

Red and green do contrast wonderfully. Though you may have to stay on top of tonal ranges, too bright and that combo looks Christmassy. Both dark can still almost evoke that, albeit a rather Tim Burton Chrimbo. :p

Sooooo... found some time to say a few words about the current progress and plans.

Last paintingsession lasts about 4-5 hours. All I ve done was shading / highlighting his breastplate. Got some issues with the highlight because those VGC tends to get milky very fast when you re thin them with destilled water. But finally I ve found a way to avoid it. I like the result. It looks much btter irl - theres more contrast then on the photos.

I ll add some OSL when I ve added the arm with the flower (as a light source).

Next step will be the leatherstraps around his body. Those will get a really dark tone to get some darkness in it, should be easier for the eyes to look at then a totally bright painted body that shouldn´t get all the attention.

@dfb: Where`s my ordered shield? Any progress? I think we ve lost each other ;) I am still inetrested in.
