I wanna know the same thing, I thought the tree looked really Tim Burton-esque, but it seems there was madness in your method... Looking sweet!

Nice I am really liking it. Cute sums it up. How did you make the tree foliage, it looks really cool?

Thank you.

The foliage is made of a product from "mininatur". A german modellingsupplier. The product itself is named "Eichenlaub Sommer". It`s very easy to work with to get this effect (it`s my first try!). You just cut pieces out of the flocked mat to glue it on the tree. Never seen a product that`s more realistic. Maybe you ve seen some works of TRULL before, he`s using the same product for his excellent basingwork.

Here`s a shop whre you can order it (in germany): http://www.2w6plus6.de/shop/en/product?info=432

You ll find even more variations of those flocked mats and some moss and grass too. I`d recommend all of those products from mininatur

Thx for voting!

Hey folks! Here`s my current WIP, it`s King Maulg from Figone.

I deceided to paint him in a different colourscheme. Some simple conversion is planned, adding a chain to his axe.

Photos are always talking more then words can do:

Nice mini. And good work on his arm's veins.
But it seems as if the skin tone is a bit heterogenous: On the photos breast, back and head appear to have more red than legs and hands which look a bit browner. Intended? Or still in work?

Hey DunErwit, thanks for your reply. You`re right, the hands and everything below his stomach is painted in dark flesh. Wanted to do something simple to get more attraction to this mini. Simply red all over would have been very... boring? ...

Yesterday I ve cut the axe. Here`ll be a little conversion soon.

Another day - another mini.

Since I`ve realised that I am not able to finish my planned project until German Games Day 2011 I deceided to start with a smaller one.

A very good friend of mine send me some minis as a birthdaypresent back in April. Beside some orknobz and other nice minis there was a very special miniature. It`s the limited Ork Sqwadron Commander from ForgeWorld. Such a cool mini! So I am going to paint this single miniatue as my entry for my first ever competition.

While removing all moldlines I was thinking about a small scene for the base. My big brain (maybe talking about a large amount of air in my head ;) told me to add a parachute behind the ork. So it will look like he just landed and is calling for reinforcement to smash pointy ears.

Before I am working directly on the abse some testing had to be done. Mixing some PVA glue with water to let a handkercheif drain full of it. This was simple put on a testing-surface to see how folds are going to be and how it dries later tio be ready for some pimping and painting.

"Ladiez an' gentlemen, please fasten ya seatbelts. We'z going to 'ave sum turbulences..."

Sadly it took 2 full days now and it`s still a little bit wet. But the result is nice so far. I hope it will get as hard as I imagine, otherwise it would be a challenge for me adding some patches & rough seams to the parachute.

...

Time went by fast - not like my progress.

But I ve managed to finish the basework and applied first basecoats.

first try at weatehring by using a liquid mask:

Colors used for the basecoat of the skin (if someone is inetrested):

Let`s go on with this nice `n nasty Ork.

I ve concentrated on his weaponarm during the last paintingsession. so just take a look at that one. Every other painted surface is just basecoated.

After adding the highlights I used several thin glaces of red and purple to generate a warm shadow. Later I was working in the other direction to smooth things out. All I have to do now is to bring in some more colors to make him alive, I am thinking of glaces of any skintone, light red and maybe a little bit of brown too. not sure. Time will bring results ;)

The weapon itself has got a basecoatr of rust. Thje glossy parts you can see there are my masking fluid. So i could easily rip off paint on those parts afetr painting the metallics. So I ll get a nice rusteffect there.

The yellow itself will be looking like a wasp later, just black stripes are missing. It just needs several layers until yellow is covering the rustparts. I hate it to paint yellow.......

Here are the pictures:

Today I want to share my current progress on my ork sqwadron commander. There`s not much what happened, but I am satisfied with the result so far. Not every area is finished there, so don`t worry about bad blendings right now (walkie talkie arm; trouser...).

Before I started to paint on his left arm I tried a small freehand-tattoo. Nothing spectacular, but nice for a first try since shadows and highlights would cover it later anyway. I ll add a similar freehand later when everything on his arm is done, but not in white. Instead I would use a dark red to not pull attention to his arm

I'm loving the skin tones matey. The purples add real depth and character! Jacket is shaping up nicely. All in all this is a really cool sculpt IMO :) Excited to see more.

Cheers
