Slekke's WIP thread (Iron Warriors and Carmine Dragon)

Been a very long time since I posted anything here, but since I started painting again I decided it'd be a good time to start a WIP thread here.
Anyway, just started work on a FW Carmine Dragon and I4m going for a warm red classic fire dragon look. I have to admit I based the red on the recipe from somebody else's dragon, but I've adjusted it a bit as it was a bit too orange.
As far as painting it is concerned it's an absolute nightmare to blend (I'm not that good at blending anyway).

But I suppose some pictures are in order, so here they are. The first one's a bit further along in the process, but the second one shows more detail.

Comments and criticism would be very much appreciated. :)

looking good so far, starting my own carmine in next few weeks but finishing my Cang first. The layering is looking cool but i got some great advice for giving extra depth to the model by using thinner paints (almost glazes) and thin layers of varnish (satin) in between the colour layers. Will be watching this with interest :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that some time. :)
In the meantime I've steadily continued working on the Carmine and have also started work on my Iron Warriors. No pictures of the Carmine yet as there only the part from the head up to the shoulders has been painted since the last picture, however I am close to finishing my first unit of Iron Warriors and would like to know what people on these forums think about them. They're supposed to be my best TT standard which I'm hoping will be good enough to at least get some nominations (if not winning) for best painted at local tournaments. :)

Anyway, less talking, more pictures. The first five have been finished apart from the bases which need some snow slush and dead Imperial Fists added to them. The next three are still WIP. All of them are made from a mix of normal plastic chaos marines, old Iron Warrior bitz and Forge World mark III Iron Armour. The idea is for every single model on the army to have been converted or have some bitz swapped.

Comments? Keep it up, mate! I like you subtly use of inking to tone the metallics a bit.

Thanks. You're actually the first one who's seen these pictures who's noticed the purple wash on the metal. :)
