Hi all.

I was scanning through a really old copy of dragon magazine (issue 99 dated June 1985) when I came accross a \"press release\" from Citadel / Gamesworksho US advertising the, then new, LotR figures series when i stubled accross this paragraph

\"This release will be the first yo feature the revolutionary new concept: The sltta base. Each figure will; come with a sturdy plastic base instead of the traditional integral one. Once mounted on the slotta base, the figures improved vertical stability enhances both tabletop and roleplay gaming\"

This means that in June this year, the slotta base will be 20 years old! Happy birthday!

Now arnt you glad to stopped to read this thread :p

I\'m not baking a birthday cake!

Cool!

Especially after I fought yesterday trying to remove the intregal \'broccoli base\' from some Reaper minitures. I ruined one pair of \'modelling wire cutters\' and had to pull out the heavy duty ones... Cutting off a tab to fit into a slot would have been much easier.

Neat little tidbit.;)

Yeah, the slotta base sure wasn\'t GW\'s worst contribution to the hobby. Cutting bases off is a nightmare. I don\'t know why all minis weren\'t just molded with pegs/tabs on their feet, from the beginning. You\'d think it would actually make them easier to cast...

Mind reader! GW are just about to announce their annual price increase.

Annual? Wow, they must have gotten a heart or something. I thought their price increases were quarterly... ;)

The slotta bases are pretty cool, though. I have to admit that I greatly prefer those over the broccoli bases a certain other company uses.

I remember getting some Ral Parthas that, in my opinion, had the perfect basing idea: they had posts on the bottom of both feet, and the square (metal) bases had several holes in them. Sometimes, I really miss Ral Partha. :(

speaking of bases...

I painted up a \"reaper\" mini a while back....Durgham Deepmug, or some such name...anyhow he was from the \"warlord\" line, and it actually had a metal slotta base.

Are all of the Warlord minis equipped with a metal base? I have to say I prefer it much to the plain plastic one. It gave the mini a lot of weight and avoids the dreaded \'top-heavy-tippy syndrome\' many of my other minis have.

All of the Warlord mini\'s I\'ve purchased have come with the metal slotta bases. They are actually pretty nice bases. I use them whenever I\'m not actually cutting the mini off of the tab to mount to something else. I love many of the Reaper \"Dark Heaven\" minis but man are they a pain in the arse to cut off of those integral \"broccoli\" bases. I wish they would make all of their minis with tabs. But I guess that is really the sculpter who does that not the company, no?

Cheers,
Grumb

Reaper come with both metal and plastic bases, I think it depends upon the mini.

I think the brocolli base is from Reaper and not the sculptor, but thats just what I think.

The only warlord miniature that I\'ve gotten with a metal base was one of the mummy lords (can\'t remember his name).

Usually I find myself cutting off the base or, as in my latest bit of trouble, glueing the whole thing to cork and blending it all in so that you don\'t know that its on one of those precast bases.

Hmm... I have a couple of Warlord models with metal bases, but the newest batch I just got all have plastic bases. I wonder if they started with metal, but phased that out and went to plastic.

I also noticed that the newer ones I got have cards in them (these came direct from Reaper). Which is weird, because I distinctly remember seeing a couple of them in a LGS that did not have cards for the same models.

Warlord

Yeah, the cards in the Warlord minis seems to be a new packaging thing. I\'ve got a bunch of the old Warlord figures without.

The cards are new and on their site you can pick up all the cards (something like 200 of them I think) for fairly cheap .. think you\'re just covering postage or some such.

What do the cards look like? Something along the lines of Confrontation cards?

I haven\'t really looked at the cards, to be honest.

>>SOUNDS OF RIPPING BLISTER PACK TO SHREDS<<

Lessee... Well, first impression is that these cards are pretty damn cheap. They\'re not as thick as the Rackham cards, and the one I\'m looking at is actually cut off-center. One side of the card has a pic of the model fully painted, and what I\'m guessing to be some game stats for the Warlord game. The back is very plain (looks like an inkjet print, actually) with a little box that has game stats.

Well, since I won\'t be using them to play Warlord (Savage Worlds is my game of choice now--great for both miniatures and RPG), I guess I really don\'t care if I get packs with or without cards. The quality is well short of those cards that come with the Rackham pieces, or even with many of the Privateer Press models (WARMACHINE ones anyway... which is the only other mini-game I play right now).
