Sludge Gulper Foundation Challenge

I\'ve been using the GW foundation paints for a few weeks and really like the colours and coverage.

Just for fun, I thought I\'d attempt to paint a whole figure using only the foundation paints, plus black and white. Oh, and a little Vallejo Glaza Medium. Of course, there is no reason why you would want to restrict your range of colours in this way normally, but I thought it we be interesting to see what it would turn out like.

The model I will be painting is a Heresy Sludge Gulper, to which I have added a top hat, monacle and suit jacket. I also made a scenic base for it from a piece of piping and some other model components.

Hopefully this will progress quite a bit today, so I\'ll be posting pics as I go.

Ok, I\'ve put on most of the basecoats. \'Flesh\' is Orkhide shade, pipe is Calthan Brown, Jacket and hat are Fenris Grey, Cogs are Adeptus battlegrey. Base is Charadon Granite, followed by Khemri Brown, followd by Dheneb Stone

A bit flat and boring at this stage, but a decent start

Ok, got quite a bit done. The flesh has been highlighted with a 50:50 mix of orkhide shade and knarloc green, then with knarloc green by itself. I then mixed tallarn flesh, knarloc green and a little dheneb stone for the next couple of highlights, I\'ll probably was the flesh with a green and then do a couple more highlight coats. The flesh colours on the face were done by mixing tallarn flesh with a lot of glaze medium to create a wash, this was applied in many thin layers to build up the colour around the mouth.

I used the saem technique to create a green wash to apply to a few areas of earth on the base.

The teeth are Khemri brown, highlighted with 50:50 khemri brown dheneb stone, then dheneb stone, then dheneb stone with white.

The \'finger mouths\' were basecoated with 50:50 Mechrite red / hormagaunt purple. This was shaded by adding charadon granite and highlighted by adding dheneb stone and white.

Looking good. The Foundation paints are really something aren\'t they? I\'m hoping they may do a few more at some point.

Yeah, I\'m loving the foundation set. The colours are all quite muted, which suits my style of painting.

Charadon granite in particular is very handy for adding to colours for shading

Love those foundation paints! My only issue is that the Mechrite Red is a little on the orange side, but that is corrected easily enough.

Got this guy finished over the weekend.

Jacket is Fenris grey, blended up to dheneb stone and down to charadon granite.

I did start to notice a bit of the colour separation that other people have mentioned at this stage. The darker grey pigment began to separate and sit on the surface if a lot of glaze medium was used. However as long as I gave the paint a quick swish with my brush as I picked up paint, there didn\'t seem to be any major problems.

The pipe is Calthan Brown, blended up to Iyanden darksun and down to Charaddon granite (I like that colour). I also made some green wash by mixing glaze medium and orkhide shade and applied this to some areas.

The metal cogs are adeptus battlegrey, highlighted up to astronomicon grey and shaded by adding black.

I think that about covers it. I\'ve really enjoyed the foundation colours. I used all of them on this mini apart from Macharius Solar Orange and Hormagaunt Purple.

not to fond of the highest highlights one the edges of the jacket, but over then that looks nice =)
And after trying charadon granit, I have to say that foundation paints will definetly be getting some use on my minis
