Heya gang,

Here\'s my latest and only GW mini in a while. I\'m pretty pleased with the way he turned out. \'Specially considering how quickly I cranked it out.

I entered him in the Fantasy Monster category at GD in Baltimore and got a lot of very valuable feedback from both the judges and other contestants. Even still, I\'m very excited to get comments on critiques from the CMoN crew. It\'s really important to me, actually.

Anyhow... without further ado. Slugdrool, the Dwarf Battle Standard wearing Troll from the Skull Pass box set. /drumroll

Thanks in advance for any comments/votes/etc.

Cake or Death?
I\'m darned impressed - does that count as feedback? :D

Seriously, though, the only thing I can think of is smoother transitions between colors. Based on your pic (which might be giving me the wrong impression), it looks like you use layering. Maybe try wet-blending?

That is a very subtle paint job!!

It doesn\'t reach out a slap you, but the more you look, the more depth and colortone you realize.

Very impressive!

I like the transition of green to blue on his face. I like the coppery statue with the green patina. That turned out nice.
The bones could be a bit warmed in tone. They look greenish (could be the pic).
I also like the pinkish hue on parts of the flesh tone.

Hey thanks for the comments, everyone!

I\'m thinking I may need to take some different pics. I\'m not good at it so it\'s hard to get the motivation for a photo shoot instead of a painting session. However, I got a couple comments in the Baltimore thread from people who saw it at GD saying my photos are letting me down.

@ ET - Always nice to get that kinda feed back! =)

@ BNS - Heh... the only reason I had him assembled and sitting around was as a green stuff experiment. I wanted some practice sculpting organic stuff. It\'s kind of a weird model, isn\'t it? The head and neck are particularly wonky when you put him together. I\'m pleased with how it turned out, though.

@ Supervike - Thank you and especially for taking the time to see some of the subtle stuff. One of the criticisms I received from the judges was that some of the blending was too subtle. It looked really nice with careful consideration up close but didn\'t really grab you at arms length. Well... like you said, it doesn\'t slap you in the face. I\'m definitely going to improve on the face-slapping quality of my entries for next year. =P

@ Celthulhu - Yah, several people have commented on the pinkish hue. I brought the belly and parts of the chest and ears almost all the way up to pure GW Elf Flesh. It\'s kinda lost in the photos, but I really like the effect. If I were crazy enough to try and do an Orc/Goblin army, I\'d definitely do it again. It looks nice against the green. And I see what you\'re saying on the skulls. I swear there ain\'t a drop of green on them.

Thanks again for the comments, gang. I feel like my painting has been steadily improving. With the feedback I\'ve got on this guy, I\'m really anxious to put some of that advice to work on a new project.
