Hi!
I started this yesterday as a bit of a personal project alongside the Brom Hardbark mini. Only the initial shading and highlights have been done so far, but I would love to hear your thoughts!
The objective for this mini is to do a bit of practising before trying to enter GD 2010, so please fire away with the comments :)

I like the green so far, is it going to be a Salamanders bike? From my little experience I\'d say the highlighting and shading is real good, too, only the edge highlighting around the tank looks a bit too broad, just a thought.

Is the skull on the tank already in its finished colour? Looks like bone and that\'s good on skulls, I guess, however, I\'m not sure it works well witht that bright, strong green around it. Would\'ve gone for a metallic colour, eventuall, but maybe that\'s just me. ;)

Like this bike, would like to see more!

Cheers,
Witzkatz

very nice just the edge highlight on the tank need thining and maybe a few hot spots.
Why wait till 2010 to enter come on down(or up for you I guess) and have a look, it will be my first this year.

I agree about the edge highlighting being little too broad, also there are some areas (especially on the second photo - center of the model) where the shadowing isn\'t that deep as elsewhere but I\'m guessing it\'s just isn\'t done yet.
I\'d definietly like to see progress.

This looks great! I don\'t have an eye for judging GD-level work, but it\'s really, really good - especially love how vivid your green is. How\'d you do that?

it\'s better quality painting than i could do but the only major concern i\'d have that hasn\'t been mentioned is your painting of your main colour on to what should really be metal like part of the engine (admittedly there will be covered by the rider), the trim around the tank (this is more personal choice as it could really be any colour but always nice to see them vary like with marine shoulder pad trims to give a contrasting look), where the tsnk is mounted as this would reallistically be part of the bike frame , the front forks admittedly the block colour where it connects to wheel would be good but i\'d have the circle on that part metal just to match up with the wheel and it may not come out to good but that\'s more the shaping on GW\'s blocky sculpt for it than your painting skills

i suppose it is possible to have a lot of the areas i\'ve mentioned painted but in reality these areas would show a lot of battle damage effects if you are going to use them as the front forks would have straight scratches from shocks and the painted engine parts would bubble and blister from the heat and start to give off that blued steel/scorched metal look too

oh and if you do that rememer to wreck the foot pegs beyond belief as those chunky things would get scraped up to shit the first time the scout leans into a sharp corner

and speaking of them leaning into a corner you may want to green stuff some knee sliders on to the rider as the material trousers they are modelled as wearing would be torn up maybe just using the shaping of a space marine armoured knee and scraping in a design for some strapping around the back of the knee or just a raised effect around the slider to show it being stitched under the material just to give you an idea this is an r&g titanium knee slider these ones are more than likely fastened by velcro patches

i guess if you wanted to be more fluffy cybernetic legs would be the way to go because if the model scout was actually to use a bike they supposedly do their knee joint would have torn off or possibly mangled their whole leg under the weight of those bikes after their first spill in learning to handle the bikes let alone in combat

but this is just me bitching about a shitty sculpt painting looks great though

Nice green!

Lovely work! I really like your green colour here and the shading. You could go even darker in some spots, like under the foot stool thang etc. I think you\'re onto a good thing using some reddy browns with your shading, like on that back panel that covers the rear tire. Nice. If this is your prep mini for the GD competition, I\'d really go crazy and experiment more with your shade and highlight colours. Purple is also a nice colour to shade with, and some nice light blue and bleached bone will go well with the green when highlighting. Just some other possibilities to consider. Great stuff!

.edit. Oh yeah... I forgot to mention that (like some other guys have suggested) you\'re going to have to get your edge highlighting cleaner. You can fix what you\'ve done with some very thinned washes of your base/or first highlight colours applied over the edged areas. Then have another go at it.

Really nice tips and pointers there guys, thank you very much!
As it stands, the model has been resprayed, and I will use some of the stuff suggested on the next go. I am planning on doing the bike as part of the Salamander chapter, and I have been watching a lot of videos on how to do flames on bike bodywork... hopefully it will still look good on 28mm scale.

???

Are you going to do normal car body type flames, or Sally flames that just rise up from the bottom?

There isn\'t much room for either on the bikes sadly.
