Small images for figs?

Man, I\'m a little stuck. UnDave has given me a great idea.... getting an image of a playing card and shrinking it to 32mm scale for a model I\'m painting up to look like the Joker but I don\'t EVEN know where to begin.

ANyone know where I can go to steal images? Then do I just break them down with gimp?

Google: tarot, ice card, <subject> card, whatever:p
Then you could open any progrem you wish and shrink it to a very small size. The card should be 32 mm? or the miniature holding it is 32mm?

Good point about the printer. I\'m probably further ahead to do it out of styrene and fake it with a brush. Damn! Why are all the easy shortcuts I try to utilize more effort then the original suggestion!

Thanks guys!

Could you not print a reasonable-sized image on that shrinky dinks plastic stuff, then shrink it in the oven and file it down to the required thickness? Just a thought...

Granddad!
card images...

here you go Scott

the image titled minicards is the playingcards image reduced by 25%( max reduction on my printer) printed out then scanned again, I then printed that out at 25% reduced, which seemed to give a close approximation( without a mini to hand), and was still recognizable as playing cards
feel free to copy and use the cards as you wish

Those cards Mick linked to should help, especially if you have a color printer!

I have printed out some tiny stuff, using my work\'s printer....

for instance:

The yellow police line on the \'gangsta\' was just done in Word. I typed POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS several times, scaled it as small as I thought it should be, then used the HIGHLIGHTER feature to make it yellow. Printed it on the color laserjet.

The newspaper on the bum was a fake newspaper I made (also in word). The headline reads THE DEAD WALK, and I inserted a pic of someone else\'s zombie.

I scaled it down as much as I could, then shrunk the rest on a copy machine. (then just inked it so it turned brownish yellow).

Oh man! Thanks Mick et all!

Supervike! That newspaper idea is gold! For my joker project I might try to recreate one of the headlines from the \"Dark Knight\" or maybe something from the comic books.... \"Commisioner\'s daughter kidnapped\" or something like that.

Pure gold guys! I\'ll wait till I\'m at home to give it a whirl but I am indebted!

UnDave: Here in Canada everything is big, and we aims to keep it that way! De-Bigulators were made illegal during the FLQ crisis when Trudeau instituted martial law. Man, don\'t you know ANYTHING!

I was once told, because it\'s quite flat, that Canada is the only place where you can watch your dog run away for a week,

is that true?;)

Complete Myth. We\'re too busy to spend the whole week watching the dog run away, what with the igloo carving and seal hunting and all. 2 days, 3 tops.

So safe to say we don\'t get suprise guests out here. When you can see them coming 20km away it\'s tough to get snuck up on.

nice painting btw, yours?

No, that would make me an \"artist\" and I don\'t hold with such things. Seriously I can barely write my name so others can read it let alone paint something recognizable. Even if the painting is 50% sky, 50% snow.

LOL. Excellent looking minis, and excellent Canada jokes to boot, this thread has it all :)... seriously though, your best bet to retain detail at those sizes is to make sure your source image is the highest resolution it can be, which sometimes means (especially with already scaled down web images) printing the original full size, then scanning the print back in at the highest resolution your scanner supports... depending how obviously copyrighted the images are you can also convince Kinko\'s or similar copy shops to scan for you as well. I\'d recommend no less than 1200 dpi, although your original file will then be huge, it will scale down nicely in Gimp/Photoshop/PSP etc. I made a ton of 3-D buildings and accessories for Heroclix using this method to make posters, newspapers, signage etc. and it comes out fairly well.

the original files I saved as tiff\'s, they came in at over 22MB each, had to save them as jpeg\'s to upload the to PB, even then they were around 4MB

I did a test run with them and they came out pretty good
