Smart Phone Camera?

A lot of people are suggesting using purpose-bought digital cameras, but funding is very tight so I can't really afford a new cam. My smart phone camera is actually a bit better than my normal point-and-shoot camera, so i'm working with that at the moment.

Has anyone had much success with smart phone cameras in the past?

if so, can anyone suggest a camera app (android) that might take better pictures than the built-in app?

i'm using a G2x phone, if that makes a difference.

I'm using nothing but my smartphone camera, haven't used a "real" camera since 03-04 something. And with not much fiddling you can get decent and more than decent pictures with them. Haven't tried any camera apps myself since the original software for the camera I use is great. Only thing I'm missing is manual focus, which can be a pain from time to time.

Here are a few links to my threads to show you the picture quality I get:

Edit: Oh, right. And the camera I use at the moment is the one for the Nokia Lumia 900 and my previous one was the one for the Nokia N8.

those pictures look great, thanks for sharing!

I'm working on a simple light box as i've had a bit of trouble lighting some of my minis (they remain unposted on here because i want to get the photography right first), so hopefully that will help.

My Galaxy S2 can take a good picture in macro mode. It uses the standard Android v2.x.x app. I think with a smart phone its not the app rather the camera itself that will help or hinder you. I took this:

I know the lighting is crap but the camera is good. Yours should be ok too. Just use the macro mode and try and brace the phone on something to steady it.

Must be honest, all my WIP shots are taken with my Xperia Pro using the standard camera with the flash turned off. However it does have a 8MP camera on it so that helps!
