SMOKE....wiggers need not apply

I just got a bottle of Tamiya smoke, and I was wondering how you guys go about using it...any good mixes you\'ve discovered, do you thin it down with water, mix it with paint, etc..

I also picked up a little bottle of Tamiya acrylic paint. I thought it was basically just normal acrylic paint until I read the bottle, and it said scary stuff like \"flammable\" and \"use in well ventilated room\" and \"allow to dry for one hour\". All I really wanted was a nice dark grey that was like my vallejo and GW paints, but instead it seems as though I\'m painting with the flammable equivalent of a grenade that will slowly destroy my brain as I wait an hour for it to dry.

Now, I\'m pretty sure acrylics shouldn\'t do all that...Is it a label they put on all their paints, and they put it on the acrylics to save time and money, or what? Anybody with these paints?

Don\'t use water to thin it down as you will lose a lot of its properties, Tamiya do an acrylic paint thinner use this to thin the smoke.

You can use it the same way as you use the Vallejo stuff but out of the 2 I prefer the Tamiya, its good for doing armour and metallics but you might not want to use it after you have highlighted as it can leave a shine and a thin layer on all surfaces it gets on, I find it very good for weapons and grooves and adding a dulll look to epic titans if I do the joints and un armoured areas with metalics.

Also I have seen it used to good effect as a dark lining method on bare metal figures if you want to take a photo of them before painting, not sure what it would be like as a primer though might have to give that a go some time.

What War Griffon said.

Tamiya acrylics are alcohol based, so you can thin them with rubbing alcohol, windscreen washer fluid or really strong vodka :)

Also, don\'t paint repeatedly over the same area, let it dry fully. The solvent in the paint will lift the first layer if it\'s not completely dry.

He\'s probably a very good one as you missed the point he is not throwing away good whisky by diluting paint with itlol

Ah hah!!

I didn\'t \'miss the point\'...:D

I\'ve rarely met a Scot that would use any alcohol for anything other than its intended purpose:D

Have you?

Everybody sing!!

A Scotsman clad in kilt left one evening fair
And one could tell by how he walked he\'d drunk more than his share,

He stumbled \'round until he could no longer keep his feet,
Then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

Ring ding diddle diddle i o
Ring di diddly i o
He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.

About that time two young and lovely girls just happened by.
One says to the other with a twinkle in her eye,

\"See yon sleeping Scotsman so strong and handsome built.
I wonder if it\'s true what they don\'t wear beneath the kilt.\"

Ring ding diddle diddle i o
Ring di diddly i o
I wonder if it\'s true what they don\'t wear beneath the kilt.\"

They crept up on that sleeping Scotsman quiet as could be,
Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see,

And there, behold, for them to view beneath his Scottish skirt,
Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth.

Ring ding diddle diddle i o
Ring di diddly i o
Was nothing more than God had graced him with upon his birth.

They marveled for a moment, then one said, \"We must be gone.
\"Let\'s leave a present for our friend before we move along.\"

As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon, tied into a bow,
Around the bonnie star the Scot\'s kilt did lift and show.

Ring ding diddle diddle i o
Ring di diddly i o
Around the bonnie star the Scot\'s kilt did lift and show.

Now the Scotsman woke to nature\'s call and stumbled toward the trees.
Behind the bush he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees.

And in a startled voice he says to what\'s before his eyes,
\"Och, Lad, I don\' know where ye been, but I see ye won first prize.\"

Ring ding diddle diddle i o
Ring di diddly i o
\"Och, Lad, I don\' know where ye been, but I see ye won first prize.\"

Found this when looking for an Irish Rover song one time.. :p

I been a wild rover for many a year
And I spent all me money on whiskey & beer
But now I\'m returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover no more

And it\'s no, nay, never!
(Clap clap clap clap)
No nay never no more!
Will I play the wild rover,
No never, no more

I went to an alehouse I use to frequent
And I told the landlady me money was spent
I asked her for credit she answere me nay
\"Such custom as yours I could have any day\"

And it\'s no, nay, never!
(Clap clap clap clap)
No nay never no more!
Will I play the wild rover,
No never, no more

Yeeaahhh....

Thanks guys.

But thanks War Griffon and Rab, anyways. But does that mean I shouldn\'t worry about the Tamiya fumes, then?

Heheh, so we did. I assume he misread the \"wiggers need not apply\" part. :D Of course, he did just register today, so it might just be a joker from the forums.

And until you\'ve grown up in a town where every second house has a grow-op, you aren\'t a wigger. :D

I\'m sorry, is it just me or is anybody else a little lost now?

What the hell have wiggers got to do with anything? Or is this another of those mysterious in jokes that I\'d only understand if I\'d been on-line at 4 in the fookin morning?!

I\'ve not really noticed them that much I guess so long as the room you are using isn\'t a box or cupboard under the stairs you should be OK after all how long do you keep the top off for?
Years ago I used Tamiya paints completely as a go between enamels and GW but found that they could be just as bad as enamels (although they tasted better when you licked your brush point)

These days the only Tamiya paint I use is the smoke, I still have over a dozen other colours but they are mostly gunk in the bottom of the jar and as I said earlier I use them to hold figures when painting so I can get all around without touching the figure.

Forgot to mention it is very good for doing chainmail just pint it silver then when dry add in the smoke it\'ll stay in the links making it nice and dark:D

After living in Glasgow for 18 months I take your point.
I could never understand the fasination for deep fryed Mars bars and Pizza though.

Crap...:(

And I usually tend to keep my paint pot lids off the entire time I\'m painting, but we\'ll see.
Thanks :)

Some of the really cheap Vodkas are only fit for paint thinner really :)

Ahh, deep fried Pizza, possibly a uniquely Scottish \"delicacy\", I knew an American girl who didn\'t believe it until we took her to the chip shop and got her a pizza supper (pizza & chips), she was nearly sick.
Of course Scotland also has one of the highest rates of heart disease in the western world, I wonder why :)
