Smooth-on Epoxy Putty

Wow this stuff looks pretty cool. I'd get the "sculpt" type with the detailed spray. The spray looks cool because it's says it makes it non sticky. So you can build up all of your layers like normal, then when you get to the detailing parts just spray it down and it's much easier to form. Sounds cool I'd buy it just because I'm intrigued. Let us know what you do.

Alright, so, first things first. Despite the listed price, it's also 3lbs. So I ended up paying around $40 after S&H for the tester kit.
On the other hand, it's 3lbs of epoxy putty. That's almost 14 times the amount you get in a tube of greenstuff (3.5oz). Just in case you think it's just heavier. The tester kit for this stuff is a full pint of A/B.

The shore hardness for Freeform SCULPT is 80 vs Greenstuff's 60 and Brownstuff's 80 so it will harden to about the consistency of Greenstuff's tougher brother.
Probably the most disappointing thing though is that right out of the pot it's a lot softer than mixed greenstuff. It's about the consistency of wet clay, and seems to be water soluble as it left a watery residue on my wet fingers and tools. I'm not noticing any problems adhering to a surface though, in fact it kept sticking to my tools even when I switched from water to mineral oil.

Roughly an hour later it's the consistency of Greenstuff, but holds details and shape better.

Don't know if I'd recommend it for full mini sculpts as I don't do them much anymore, but for a lot of the much larger work I'm doing lately it's an improvement over GS economically and seems to be equivalent to that sculpting mainstay.

Excellent review. I hope the sculptors out there find this useful.

Ugh on the price. I can't see myself doing that unless I was a full figure sculptor. A typical AB of GS lasts me forever. But if I was doing a ton of conversion work, like adding capes to a unit, it would probably pay off in the end. I don't have experience with anything BUT GS though. For my money I'm going to get some milliput. It can be sanded and combined with GS, also it's a good gap filler when you add water. I'd think that if that stuff acted like wet clay though that this would be a good thing. Standard oven baked clay seems much more malleable and less sticky than GS type epoxies. But again, I'm no expert here.

After hardening overnight the Freeform Sculpt is very hard, actually much harder than I've seen with Brownstuff. Parts around 1cm in thickness can be easily snapped between two fingers, but I can't even bend or warp parts thicker than 2cm using my bare hands. A sharp tool can scrape or cut the surface and it takes to sanding really well.

Would definitely not recommend for use if you're just adding a handful of small details. It's a lot of material, but the cost is prohibitive if you aren't using a lot of the material. Since I'm mostly doing larger sculpture now-a-days though, I'm probably going to stick with this.
