snow bases

hi all
im a young person who has just started painting. ive got bout 25 models o far, amd by some unbeliveable fluke ive come 5th in yb this year with my harry the hammer.
for the base i picked the most sickening coulour i could imaginable to cath the eye. next yaer im planning on a snow base. ive seen something david rodrig(i dont know haow to spell it) did with his snow models were covered in what looked like melting snowflakes. any 1 know how to do that?

yeah those are the right 1s alex thanks. however i dont have a pic of harry, seeing as im far too cheap to afford a cmaera, but when i get my paper ronud!!!!!!!!:twisted:

ur not even thirteen and u got to the finals of yb, are we looking at the next super mini painter ???

as for the snow a lot of people say that this effect is done by using micro balloons or something simular

I was in the top few in yb the year i entered.. (miffed..) (frickin bill...)(.. frickin gay...) (too frickin old...)

lol i only entered yb twice got to finals got quite close to placing second time, o well adult catagorys now for us :(

i have done this with white snow flock by pummeling it with a mortar and pestel first then lightly and i mean LIGHTLY spray the model with some spray adhesive.

i find if you have a fan blowing lightly you can get it to land in some good places. with tweezers pull off the extra bits that you dont want on there aaaaaannnnnddddd.....

Baking soda + PVA glue can do a lot and it\'s very cheap.

There are two basic methods. First is to spread glue where you want snow to be, using an old brush, then sprinkle heavily with baking soda. Wait for it to dry, then tap off excess (back into container - no point in wasting it). Once hardened you can apply an additional layer to increase thickness.

Second is to make a paste of PVA and soda, mixed with an old piece of sprue maybe. Add a touch of water to help loosen it up and then apply to mini/base with whatever suits you - cocktail sticks, shaped plastic rods, sculpting tools, old brushes. This shrinks slightly as it dries, leaving a lovely gritty surface but you can exaggerate this by stippling the paste with a stiff brush when it\'s nearly dried.

Microballoons or similar work better in the long run and can be applied in the same ways I\'ve described, but be very careful not to inhale the dust.

thanks for all the great replies and help evrybody:beer: brilliant advice ill try all of it!! jsut sent an IM to mr rodriguez himselffor some inspiration. might be able to get some pics of harry up soon, but they\'ll probably be with my phone, so the quality will suck. :cry:

If you take a picture against a dark background in good lighting (preferably daylight) you should be able to get a decent photo even using a mobile.

I\'m looking forward to seeing your GD winner.

I\'ll see if there are batteries in the camera, if so I\'ll bring the mini light tent with me into town and we\'ll see if we can get some photos for you to post.
I can\'t say they\'ll be great - but should be better than camera phone.
