Well this is my first \"real\" go at snow,which turned out pretty good I think.
The snow is a mix of gloss varnish and mineral powder (stuff used to fill out resin mixes,bicarb of soda should work or even talc).This was mixed into a thick paste and super-glued onto the areas I wanted it then \"smoothed\" over.I brushed the base of the snow grey and the top white.To me it looks good but I liked the look more before I brushed it,it had a kind of sparkle.I painted on the melt with gloss varnish.

Don\'t forget a dash of dirt, a pinch of road salt, and a smattering of pebbles. Wait until the person has their back to you for the full effect. For added fun and variety, try shouting their name just before you throw it....You\'ll be amazed at the results. 
Anyways, Klutes method is basically how I do it...A bit of baking soda, white glue, water, and brush on gloss (or matte extender)....

One thing you might try is to take plaster of Paris and put it in a salt shaker (dry plaster) then from about a foot up shake it out onto whatever surface your doing. Take a spray bottle and also from a distance mist it, be careful not to be too aggresive or you will blow the plaster off. Also try to not have a sharp edge on the area between the snow and whatever is beneath, with color, blur the edge a bit. If you dont the snow comes out looking like cake frosting. Good luck.

Using the Liquitex sand texture medium, it\'s pretty durable. I haven\'t had any problems with any D&D figures I\'ve done this way.
Maybe it\'s a different story for games that see constant handling (such as 40K), but from what I can tell you\'d be just as likely to rub the paint off as the snow.
Now, if you use an alternate medium such as lightweight spackling, then yes... you might get some fragile snow patches with that. But the Liquitex stuff sets quite well.

Mix it with glue (read instructions, cause I never did) and it turns to a paste which you apply.
What I did was put superglue on model, then sprinkled tons of it all over, then got rid of excess. COol thing, it\'s like real snow. Bad thing, cause it\'s like real snow, the top flakes \'stick\' to the ones on the glue beneath, so you can touch the \'snow\' and it iwll leave a mark (like real life) but cause the top layers r just on the bottom layers, if u shake it or sneeze, it blows off.
I should have mixed it with glue to make the paste

Some good methods here that I will try. I use woodland scenic snow scatter mixed with thinned down pva glue and a little white paint that tends to work well for me.
