So what\'s in a name ...

Just a fun little topic I think so I\'m tossing it out there.

So what is in a name, specifically, your screen name that you chose to represent yourself here on the CMON site and the forums. You chose it for a reason ... what is the reason? Bit of background or some history on it ...

Myself, I obviously run around as \'Frustrated Father\', which originated in a day of complete frustration while I was picking out a new e-mail address with a DSL company and the kids would NOT leave me alone while I was on the phone with customer severice. I kept hollering at them to calm down, daddy\'s on the phone ... sssshhhh ... just a moment ....\" and then I just lost it.

I realized then that the lady on the other end of the line was laughing and I sheepishly apologized for being so frustrated and she said, \"That\'s all part of being a father\'. DING! I liked the sound of that and sure enough, I snatched it up.

Down the road in the days of BBS\'s (do some of you kids even know what those are?) and through the days I\'ve gone through other names, such as: Pumpkin\' King, Purple Asphalt, Fat Fr0g and Diabolical Daddy.

Oh this one sounds like fun. I\'d love to read stories about screen names!

My story\'s short, though. Margo is my real name :)

When I was younger I used to be active in the goth scene here in Stockholm, DJing and stuff. Then you needed a nickname and I picked mine from an obscure British goth band from the early eighties called \"Ritual\", that quite few here in Stockholm knew about. I\'ve never bothered to come up with another, and so I have stuck with \"Ritual\" even though it\'s a bit cheesy.

I\'m sure this has come up before (looks around for librarian)

But anyway, Basically Hoblit is my nickname from school, it\'s based on my surname. I have also had a few other names generally as a result of my hair colour, witmuis(whitemouse for those who don\'t understand afrikaans), bleach, peroxide, and so on.

But, I like Hoblit, so I use that. My Fiancee however prefer\'s Gaz, so I tend to use that now as well.

What I would find interesting is why people have the avatars that they do. Mine is because my fiancee loves everything Eeyore. Makes getting presents easy.

Sakura

Some years past I wrote fanficts, ao I needed a nickname and because I really loved manga then, I wanted something that was japanes and had a meaning. I came up with Sakura Endo, which means Cherry, which is also a shortform of my real name.
I cut it short to Sakura later because it doesn\'t sound so formal.

Other nicknames are Sakuko, Kira and Kitty Queen.

As someone who first programmed with a 4B pencil and punched cards I am indeed familiar with BBS, and I think you\'ll find that some of the \'kids\' around here are considerably older than you;)

Modder rhu - a twist on \'madra rhu\'. That\'s Irish Gaelic for \'red dog\' which is an irish setter. See, I have one of those crazy creatures, and she\'s all the companion I could ever want or hope to have, even if it means having to pick red hairs out of paint every now and then.

minimaker

I started sculpting miniatures well before I ever bought or painted one (well, apart from plastic toy soldiers). So when I joined the minipainter list on onelist minimaker is the name I came up with.

Mosch

Read my story in the thread Finn posted, I have already wrote about it three times I think ;)

By the way, most people assume that \"Mosch\" comes from \"Mosh\" as in \"Mosh pit\". That assumption is wrong but I do like metal and well, never say no to a little moshing ;)

Well, it\'s not very original, but it\'s my last name :p
My avatar is from a website that allows us to customize one. It\'s my cartoony face.

Bugger the original Thread ,Im putting my story Here:

Donga (*Big Donga, Mr Donga) was and still is my nic-name from University. A phrase that was coined by my (and Spacemunkie\'s) friend Rich Williams with the line, \"You\'re nothing but a Big Donga!\". And from that point onwards he called me Big Donga, and it grew and grew untill there are people at Uni that don\'t know my real name is Andrew. EVEN my girlfriends mum knew me as Donga!!!!

And the reason he called me Donga is because Im 6\"5\' (just short of 2m) about 15-16 stone (108kg) and LOUD! Big and loud, nothing to do with the size of my............lollollol

666 came from hotmail, couldn\'t have just Donga. AND 666 sounds more memorable that Donga28!!!!!

Da-Da!

@Ritual: Ive seen the band you\'re named after, on a bill with Rosetta Stone. VERY dodgy!

Astonia was my very first rpg charachter. We played mutant chronicles and I was an extremely unintelligent inquisitor. I really had lots of fun with her *nostalgic*

I can imagine so! They obviously didn\'t have such a great carreer. I\'ve only managed to find one little seven inch single with them. Quite dodgy it is... But I thought they had a cool name at the time... lol

Brother Tom

My name is a nick name I was given a while back the reason being because my name is Tom, im not really sure about the brother bit , I think maybe it might be to do with my relaxed attitude towards things, maybe people thought I was a bit like a monk, I tend to contemplate on things alot and am pretty open minded, I dont really take offence from much ( apart from when people call painting minatures childish, but thats a different story).
My avatar is a picture of a samurai buddist monk quite fitting really, it is one of my minatures I painted which is in my gallery.

My Avatar

As I have developed a mindset whereby I\'m convinced of my holiness, the Pope seemed to be the perfect representative of my delusion.

My story is elsewhere on the first thread. Too tired to do the whole typing thing.

Hi Becca! (no waving smiley)

We are a friendly bunch aren\'t we!

But it is in the nature of Internet forums to take on an alter-ego. In order to present a more exciting version of our own Persona. Take Reverant as an example, he has delusions of Holiness and power (the power of a world wide church body). But Im sure in his normal life he is a perfectly nice chap. My \'personna\' is Donga the dangerous and loud, where as in fact I work in a Psychiatric hospital teaching Art & Craft to Adults with \'various problems\'. An inherantly careing profession, but you wouldn\'t pick that up from my Avatar or User name?

Or am I talking crap ?????????
