Soaking brushes..

Since I am working without the burden of knowledge I would suggest that ALL kinds of soaking would be bad, since the ferule holds the hairs with wax, and I doubt extended exposure to water is all too good for the wax...
at least, I know that hot water is bad for the wax.

There were several products that I had seen here in passing that could draw paint out of ferrules. I thought someone was talking about soaking methods.

I guess the question that I should have asked is what kinds of brush cleansers/methods have people here used successfully.

If you have to soak a brush, do it so only the hairs are soaking, do not allow any liquid touch the metal ferrule or the handle. If the handle is wood the water-soaked wood will expand and either split or contract and thus loosen the grip of the ferrule.

Do not soak brushes so the tips are sitting at the bottom of the jar. This can cause curling or splaying of your point which ruins the brush.

Your best bet is to read this excellent article by Bobby Wong. Lots of good information.
