Solid, HARD, non brittle putty??

I\'m looking for a putty that cures VERY HARD but not brittle. I\'m wanting to make some stamps with a very sharp outer edge that won\'t chip off or flex.

I\'ve used Magic Sculpt and it works OK, and Pro Create is Way too soft....I have tried different proportions to no avail. Curious if there is anything out there that has been used that may not be thought of traditionally as \'art\' material. I\'ve seen some stuff at an automotive shop but havn\'t tried it.

Have you tried A&B putty Shawn???? It\'s about the toughest of the two parters out there.....

what are the stamp shapes?? might it be possible to carve them out of plastic or fibre rod??

There\'s also a product I don\'t know it\'s normal name . I think if you search ebay it\'s called magic plastic....
basically its strips of platic that when put in hot water take on a consistency like putty.. Then cure back to hard plastic in cold water..
I experimented with it and never got round to ordering any more but I made some stamps from it and they are as tough as they come....

What I\'m doing right now is a nut and bolt stamp. I made some out of Magic Sculpt and they work fine but I\'m always nervous that they are going to chip. The reason that I need them very hard is so that I can make the edge very sharp. If it\'s not sharp what happens is that I will stamp out the nut and bolt and where the edge is flat the clay will get squashed flat on the piece I\'m trying to put the nuts and bolts on. This leaves a \'halo\' that is hard to get off. With a sharp edge, I stamp out the nut and bolt, and simply pull off the excess that squirts out from under the stamp....nice and clean. I have made some rivit stamps out of copper and they work great. The shape is basic enough that I can make the stamps no problem, but a blot - with the nut is a lot more complicated and hard to carve in metal and to get smooth. I\'m actually trying to do a nut and bolt in aluminum.......clay would be MUCH EASIER.

MIGHTY PUTTY!!!!!

it rocks and may seal hard but is not brittle.

try some ...you can get it at walgreens or cvs.

Hey Shawn, hard but not brittle is really an almost impossible material requirement; what you\'re going to get at best is something tough enough that it won\'t chip/flake easily due to its strength.

I\'ve read different views on whether hardening with heat sets putties like MagicSculp harder than just letting it set at room temperature and waiting for a full cure - 48 hours at least. You might like to try a comparison, see if it helps?

A+B is a definite contender, although there are different brands (one I got a sample of years back - don\'t know which type - was about as hard as concrete so would definitely suit).

Apoxie Sculpt is another option to try - much harder than MS.

In the hardware-store variety, Plumber\'s Epoxy Putty (MasterPlumber brand) sets fast and really hard.

Dura Bond is supposed to be very good too.

If you go with Mighty Putty, even with the tripled order available on their site it\'s pretty pricey, is there a CVS in your area? $10 apparently.

Loctite epoxy putty cure quite hard, but I don\'t know how well it would hold a sharp edge. It\'s a tube... blue on the outside gray in the middle.
My local Target and hardware stores sell it.

Hmmm... now that I am doing some sculpting, I am off to walgreens to check out this Mighty Putty you speak of, Uber.

Re: Apoxie sculpt does cure quite hard, but Apoxie Clay may suit your needs better as its not so brittle (Though it doesn\'t hold detail quite as well IMO, great for background work though). Also if you \"fire\" AS in a putty oven, it discolors (Its shape holds it just looks funny).

That stuff he\'s shilling on the commercials? Mighty Putty?

Looks the same as the white stuff or plumbers putty (at much less cost.)

Milliput comes in several grades - tried the aluminium?

Think of it as \"black stuff.\" Rather thin to start with, not like your molding and sculpting putties, more like caulk. I used to assemble large minis with it.

may be too brittle for you. It is harder than GS - not as rubbery feeling.

More like brown stuff.
